I updated my 5-star review from 11 months ago and funny enough last time I said "The only critique is that when I went my order seemingly got lost so I sat for a while waiting for my coffee. Being a new business I will assume they still have some flow aspects that need to be fine tuned. All in all a great new coffee shop that I wish all the success to." I visited today and I wish I could've removed the criticism from my review. I really wanted to like La Ventana but when you're not treated with the same courtesy as they give to other customers, then you just can't. Came in, the place was not busy at all, said hi to the barista, asked how they were, no answer given. Placed an order for a coffee and a pastry. Went to grab a table as I had some work to finish. Then I just got called to come grab my order from the counter. Next, two new customers walk in. The first one possibly a regular, the barista seemed friendly towards them, the barista brought their order to their table. The second customer also gets their order taken to their table. Both by the same barista. Customer service is definitely lacking at this establishment. And besides the experience from my previous review and the one from today, there has always been something off in this regard whenever I visited. Been to many other local coffee shops: DOCR, Anthology, Alba, Milwaukee, Red Hook, and have never felt weird about their customer service, on the contrary, quite welcoming. Unfortunately I don't think...
Read moreCoffee shops are my life. I use them for meetings, remote working, dates, reading, relaxation, gatherings, and most importantly-- for coffee and tea. I'm very lenient with most aspects of coffee shops, but here's my reaction: The service is solid. I got the matcha, which was nice. This coffee shop is a great gem. The ONLY thing that's a downer is the loud music. It was BLASTING, which made the atmosphere unpleasant. I didn't mind the music or the music type at all. It was just bombastically loud (i.e., think Hollister Co. in-store music loud). Since they were playing music with heavy bass, it was just seriously distracting. I couldn't hear anything else. I totally understand it's the owner's right to make this decision, especially if this is the vibe they're going for. I just wasn't expecting it and would've prepared for a different type of experience. If you're aiming to study/work, meet with someone over important matters, or enjoy the white noise of a coffee shop, visit...
Read moreMy husband and I headed down to Eastern Market on a Saturday and it was beyond crowded so we walked our pups across the Market to Gratiot Ave and found the hidden gem that is Le Ventana Cafe. They have a chill covered patio and the cafe interior is fresh & bright. Since it was warm out we ordered two iced drinks and tried the breakfast burrito’s. I got an iced chai & veggie egg burrito and my husband had a dem latte & sausage burrito. The drinks were really well made, the barista precisely measures their homemade demerara syrup which had a nice but light sweet flavor to it (not at all overly sugary), so I can tell there’s a lot of thought put into the quality. Our burritos were so good! The wrap was perfectly grilled and the filling was really well balanced, one of the best burritos we’ve had. We will definitely be back and I love that it’s near an entrance to the Dequinder cut so next time we can take drinks to go and walk down to...
