If youâre anywhere near Detroitâor, honestly, even across the border in Canada (yes, you Windsor folks!)âdo yourself a favor and make your way to Eastern Market Brewing Company. Nestled right in the heart of the historic Eastern Market district, just a stoneâs throw from the Detroit River and a hop across the Ambassador Bridge from Canada, this place is an absolute gem that radiates Midwestern soul.
I visited with my lovely wife Melanie and my always-up-for-a-good-time in-laws, and let me tell you, from the moment we stepped into the brewery, we were greeted with that unmistakable Midwestern charm. The staff? Friendly like theyâve known you for years. The patrons? Just as welcoming. We shared laughs, recommendations, and even some bench space.
Speaking of sharing â we sat outside and ended up sharing a table with a delightful local couple and their young kid, who was full of energy and joy, bouncing up and down on the bench like a little piston engine. Youâd think that would be distracting, but honestly, it added to the warmth and life of the experience. It was like being folded into a living postcard of Detroit hospitality.
Now, I never tip. Like, ever. But the service here? So exceptional, so genuinely warm and attentive, that I found myself enthusiastically leaving an 18% tip. That might not sound like much to some, but for me? Thatâs basically a standing ovation.
Letâs talk about the restrooms. And believe me, we need to talk about the restrooms. Spotless. Gleaming. Like the kind of clean you see in sci-fi movies where robots do all the cleaning. I went in twice and came back both times feeling like I had just walked through a showroom for premium tiles and top-tier janitorial diligence. Even my mother-in-law commented on itâand she never talks about restrooms.
Now to the beerâoh yes, the beer. We sampled a beautiful flight that included:
đş Jumbo Juice Hazy IPA â Bursting with tropical citrus and a velvety mouthfeel, this beer is like a Saturday at the lake house: relaxed, bright, and unapologetically satisfying. đş 313 IPA â Crisp, balanced, and bold, just like Detroit itself. This one is the IPA equivalent of a Michigan tailgate party: hearty, dependable, and unforgettable. đş Pineapple Market Day (Session IPA) â Light, fruity, and full of zingâimagine the refreshing joy of biting into a perfectly chilled slice of watermelon at a Midwest county fair. Yes, that good.
We were surrounded by gorgeous murals painted on the buildings nearbyâmassive, colorful expressions of Detroitâs creative pulse. Every wall tells a story, and together they give the whole neighborhood the feeling of a living art gallery.
And before I forgetâbecause this deserves its own paragraphâthe shawarma. Oh. My. Goodness. We snagged it just around the corner in the Eastern Market and devoured it like we hadnât eaten in days. Juicy, flavorful, with garlic sauce that dreams are made of. The wrap was perfectly crisp on the outside, tender on the insideâlike the city of Detroit itself: tough where it counts, but full of heart.
So yesâEastern Market Brewing Company delivered everything we hoped for and more. Fantastic beer, charming locals, unbeatable vibes, and restrooms that deserve their own Yelp page. Iâd cross two borders for another visit.

The beer was pretty good, the White Coffee Stout was extremely good. They do not sell food besides some snacks. We got a bag of Detroit Popcorn Company popcorn and loved it. Get the Detroit Mix! You can have outside food delivered and there were pups here, which was great.
The AC couldn't handle the amount of people in here and we were sweating really badly. If there is a big crowd, expect to be uncomfortable.
There are some lawn games in the Ally next to it. There are a couple pick nice tables out there too.
TLDR: Great little spot in Eastern Market, it's hot when crowded and they only...
Read moreGreat beer, bartenders, and ambiance! Bartenders were super chill and friendly. We got a flight, which on this particular Saturday night was 3 half pours for a little less than $12. We got the Raspberry Gose Sour, Mint Watermelon Gose Sour, and White Coffee Stout. Highly recommend the Raspberry Gose if you like sours! The other two were good. We sampled the Coconut Ube Blonde. Interesting flavor (you could really smell the ube and the head was purple!) but I donât think I could drink a whole pint of it. They have board games and cards available to play. We sat on the outdoor patio where there was a really nice breeze that night. Crowd there has a good vibe. Overall, great place to chill and would...
