I am a BLACK WOMAN! BORN AND RAISED IN DETROIT! I love going to the SUNDAY MARKET in EASTERN MARKET! However, today's experience was HORRIFYING! I was interested in a food truck named IMPASTO. It sells wrap sandwiches. The server was clearly PREJUDICED!! I stood at the window ALONE for more than 7 MINUTES AND WAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED OR SERVED! A CAUCASIAN MAN WALKED UP BEHIND ME AND WAS IMMEDIATELY ACKNOWLEDGED AND SERVED. While I was there I observed another BLACK WOMAN who had gotten food prior to my arrival approach the truck a few times. The exchange was cold and stilted. The server was clearly upset about her returning and complied only because she was in his face and refused to leave. After serving 5 other CAUCASIAN MEN & another 5 or so minutes more the person grumpily and with extreme reluctance asked me how I was doing and what he could get for me. I looked over the menu which had some interesting offers and it smelled good l decided to keep my money and instead do a few reviews on the business. I took pictures of the truck and he's in them I also noticed the shirt he had on stated that there was a location in FERNDALE, MI. As I was leaving I saw the other lady that he "served". I asked her what her experience was like at the truck and she described a similar situation. She did place an order and stated that he was unpleasant to her and when her food was ready he handed it to her without a bag, silverware or napkins. She told him to his face that she would NEVER patronize THAT truck and business again. I'm not usually THIS vocal but I'm positively livid. THIS person AND business is not what EASTERN MARKET IS ABOUT! IT'S ABOUT PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND NATIONALITIES COMING TOGETHER TO SHOWCASE THE UNIQUENESS OF THEIR TALENTS! I KNOW THAT THE ORGANIZER'S OF THE SUNDAY MARKET READ THE REVIEWS AND I REALLY HOPE THEY READ THIS ONE! I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED AND SAD THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS WAS HOW MY ALWAYS GREAT TIME ENDED AT MY SUNDAY...
Read moreWhat a Gem Eastern Market is and has always been for the community of Detroit. Giving local artists, farmers, creatives, and everyone in between a space to exercise community is starting to become a not so rare commodity in Detroit but it used to be! And Eastern Market has been a pioneer in making that a reality and setting the blueprint for similar spaces to coexist. Whether youâre getting fish from the local market or buying a piece of art hand painted from the local artist, you get to have a front row seat in the resurgence of Detroit in real time. This all inclusive space holds equity in diversity, allowing all facets of class, race, intellect, and social cultures alike the opportunity to come together and trade joy, smiles, conversations, and maybe even a phone number or two as I repeatedly say Detroit has thee best looking people Iâve ever seen. Not to mention itâs very safe as cops are everywhere all the time but not in the Big Brother feel, for once it feels like they finally have a genuine interest in the safety of our community. The pics youâll find associated with this post is from Eastern Market After Dark 2025, highlighting one of the many events hosted in a space that truly exalts coming together above anything else. I truly hope you find the time to visit and support this...
