I'm a huge fan of the market. It's almost a bi-weekly visit with the family not only to buy produce but for the overall experience; we go to the market even when we don't need absolutely anything. In contrast to life in the suburb, you get to see more people walking around, beautiful murals throughout. Also, you get more than just produce; you have the meat market, the plant vendors, the fresh bakery stands, and all the other vendors from jewelry to hats and everything in between. In addition, you get the various food trucks outside the sheds, not to forget the "French Cow" with the amazing crepes they make inside the shed. My most valued attractions are the street performers of all types and the live jazz & blues playing outside of "Bert's". To all fairness, there is much more to the market than what I had mentioned (from the restaurants around to the street vendors outside, etc.). However, the ones mentioned are my main points of interest. My only negative take is the prevailing "non-farmers" vendors that are growing every year in comparison to the actual farmers selling their produce directly. If I wanted to buy what chain grocery stores have, I would just go and do that. Most of the vendors are selling fruits and vegetables that are exactly what you find at your local chain grocery stores (they bother taking the stickers off) they just sell the in small cute baskets that give the impression that you are buying locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables directly from the farm to you. After going to the market for over 20 years, I've developed a preference and awareness to the difference between the two. I just wish they were more real farmers selling directly. All being said, it is a wonderful experience, it is worth visiting, and we're...
Read moreI do love the eastern market but just make sure the produce is local. I bought some strawberries in this shed and didnt realize they were not local and the next morning all the containers were all moldy. If you buy local it normally dont take as long to get the produce to the farmers market so they are fresher from what I have noticed in my opinion. We were there later in the day and a lot of booths had already closed and gone so I took a chance. This was the only time that this have ever happened with tge produce from there but like I said normally I buy products that were grown and harvested in michigan and I have loved all of the produce except this one time. I know better for next time. But wheather you want meat, fish, herbs, fire wood, flowers, garden plants, veggies, fruit, food trucks to try food, shirts, salsa, local honey, ECT eastern market is the place to go. Plus there are shops all around there to check out also that are...
