After not going to this gym for a month (Douglasville location), I went to have one last workout there and quit that gym yesterday but Michael, an amazing employee and human saved the day. He made what can feel like a weird, oppressive vibe seem different and pleasant. It was so nice to interact with him that I’ve decided to give it another chance and just hope it goes well.
I will say the Douglasville location has improvements to make but is the best gym overall that I have found in its price-range without a contract that I have found.
The cons: I found the fact that they lock up their kettlebells, making them largely unavailable to general population a bit off-putting. They gave me the reason that people have stolen them so it’s precautionary. I was a member of several gyms in LA as well as Las Vegas and generally find a gym whenever I travel. Never have I seen such a sketchy-feeling practice. A simple equipment sign-out process with coveted items being kept up front could make this issue seem a lot less…seedy.
Far more off-putting than not having access to the kb’s was the customer service surrounding the issue. First time I asked for access, the one guy who had the key said he was eating lunch (seated in the sales area) and when I asked if that meant they were unavailable or if someone else might help me, he said matter-of-factly, “unavailable” and offered nothing else. The vibe was so palpably weird that I felt the most reasonable response was not to further engage. Two other employees were sitting with him and seem to co-sign that mentality by saying nothing so I had to assume this is an acceptable level of customer service in this gym.
The 2nd occasion I asked, someone had to be phoned to figure out how to grant access. The front desk person said she’d find me when she had an answer. She never did during the remaining hour I was there. I took the kb out of my workouts.
Restrooms are ok though mirrors always have that dirty looking squeegee smear and unlike other gyms I’ve gone to where there’s enough separation, the stalls are located inside the shower area so there is a level of steam/humidity in the toilet area. Something about that feels kind of yucky if you’re not showering.
Other reasons (besides Michael) for thumbs up: Equipment areas seem clean and organized. Also there’s another guy who is at front desk sometimes…don’t remember his name but part of mgmt I think…he’s helpful as well, my little one seemed to enjoy kids club the one time he attended, equipment is in good shape, clientele is courteous and non-judgmental, I’ve never been when it was overcrowded and I’ve attended at random hours of the day....
Read moreI have been a member of LA Fitness for about three years. My multi-club membership has allowed me to go try many locations in the Metro-Atlanta area. LA Fitness Douglasville is in a large parking lot that is adjacent to Aldi, Yogli Mogli, a barbershop and a Mexican restaurant. There is also a new Jason's Deli that will be opening any day now in this same parking lot. Unfortunately, it is often challenging to find parking at this location. Especially after 5 PM - 7 PM Monday - Thursday and most days in January - Valentine's Day, when everyone signs up in their "New Year, New Me" mood. Arrive early, (20-30 minutes) or go early in the morning for less people. I prefer evenings because I use the childcare and enjoy the classes offered during those times. LA Fitness Douglasville's Kids Club hours are Monday - Friday 8a-12p and 4a-8p and Saturdays from 8a-12p. The Kids Club Staff are friendly, and they know my child by name. Management should increase coverage when it is busier to ensure safety and improve the experience. And, I do mean true coverage from people that belong in the area, and not someone that is supposed to be at the front desk that has popped in. This is not a major issue, but there have been times where the room looked very full and there was only one- or two- employees watching several children from age 6 months- 11. Personally, I wish that this location would extend the hours to accommodate some of the later classes to 12:30p and 8:30p. This would be helpful because often the classes run over because we are having fun, and the parents must leave to pick up their kids. This location has great class instructors. That is the main thing that I look for in an LA Fitness because I enjoy Zumba, Cycling and Body Works. My husband likes the sauna and the whirlpool. He also weight lifts. I intend to try Aqua Fit soon. I typically go to this location for the Zumba instructors/ Zumba classes. The instructors really make the class worth-wile and there is a true support system/family feel in place. When I work out alone, I usually use the elliptical and watch HDTV. The Stairmaster is also good. The restrooms are dated, but the staff do a good job keeping the environment clean. Overall, I recommend this location. I hope management continues to hire great staff and instructors and increase the hours for...
Read moreI’ve been going to LA Fitness for 3 years now. It’s time I be completely honest and transparent about this location and the gym as a whole.
They will overcharge you and claim to be the “best gym in Metro Atlanta” for the prices they offer (which is absurd because they do not offer any benefits in their highest range packages besides a personal trainer which you would have to continue spending money on anyways…)
Planet Fitness offers WAY more than what LA Fitness does for less than double the price than LA Fitness. Only thing LA Fitness offers is a hot tub and pool but they are NEVER cleaned routinely and you will definitely notice the smell of urine…
The showers at this location (and many I’ve been) are PUTRID. There are ROACHES, FLIES, and WORMS (yes… I have photos as well).
As for all and any gym, watch out for bugs being in the lockers.
At this location, it’s known to have people being thieves. There has been 3 instances so far where someone has their belongings stolen out their lockers… WITH LOCKS ON THEM.
LA Fitness is NOT 24/7 gym. Crazy because of the overpriced membership fees, you’d expect it to be. Better go to Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness.
The equipment at this location and Austell locations are in TERRIBLE shape. They are ALWAYS having never ending servicing and it’s annoying.
There are NO AC and the fans are just for decorations. It is HOT, you will sweat and drown, and it smells absolutely TERRIBLE.
The carpets… my god…
The pool and hot tub at this location has been under construction for half a year now… bye.
That’s all. Other than that… they do have a smoothie place inside at the Austell...
