*UPDATE- The owner made a really nice response about helping with the issue, and tried to call my husband while he was at work, but every time we would call back- he was never there or available, so my response stays the exact same- *
So, this is a long review of why we will not EVER recommend this business to anyone. If they had done the proper job to begin with we wouldn't have had to make an additional trip up there, my daughter wouldn't have gotten hurt while there (yes, I realize that I have some blame in that, but if we wouldn't have been up there we would have been home) we wouldn't have had tail light problems, had to replace our lift gate quite so soon and now have 2 taillights to replace. We came there because we thought they would do a great professional job and the job the performed was a far cry from that! My husband is very picky when it comes to repairs and the customization on our cars. So, he looked around and looked at all the reviews and we chose Laketown based on the reviews that we saw. We got a remote start put on my Toyota and from there it all went downhill. We made our appointment for a Saturday and drove up in 2 cars because theyare not local for us and had been told multiple times that it would take 3-4 hours. We tried to kill as much time with our 4 kiddos and just after the 4 hour mark and having not heard from them we drove over and the shop was locked up because they had closed at 3, we had to get the attention of someone to open the door. We found out that it still wasn't done because they didn't have all the parts even though they had been given all of the info on our car when the appointment had first been made. So, another 40 minutes later and they were finally done after taking almost 5 hours. After being rather rushed out of the shop we were finally on our way home. The next day, the alarm would set off every time I would try and start the car and I would have to unlock it first. So, I called and had to make another appointment to bring it in, because of kiddos being back in school I couldn't come until a week later. So, I had to drive all the way back up with some of my kids and wait for over an hour more during which my kids got tired in their waiting room and my youngest got hurt. Finally it looked like it was fixed after having to hardwire the transmitter on it. After I started driving around I realized that my tail lights weren't working, we thought that the bulbs must be out, but the lift gate on my car wasn't working so we had to expedite the repair on that so we could replace the bulbs. My car is an older-ish model (06’) and we found the plastic was brittle when we tried to replace the bulbs and so the lights cracked, so we now need new taillights and while trying to replace the bulbs realized that there was nothing wrong with them. My husband spent an hour tracing the electrical lines to discover that they didn't connect the correct cords and so that is why the lights weren't working. Through looking for the error discovered the mess of cables that they did when installing the remote start. It was not a nice clean job, it was a mess and not one that you expect a professional business to...
Read moreGreat customer service. Quality install. However, not quite the attention to detail I expected once the stereo was up and running.
SUMMARY - Upon disassembly of the rear interior panels and accessing the knobs, I found that the install individual had turned the knob on my low-pass filter all the way down to the low frequencies, and my high-pass filter all the way up. I mean all the way up.
A couple simple redirection-of-knob turns and THANKFULLY the upgraded system sounds MUCH better than the infinity OEM system.
ENTIRE STORY - I recently had Laketown install a complete audio system in my vehicle. Front components, rear door speakers, a small 8" sub in the factory location, and a kicker 5 channel amp to power it all. The rep mentioned he was concerned about the 8" sub location and said it might not sound too great as the sub was designed for a sealed enclosure, but my requested install location was vented/open.
I desired to retain the vehicles cargo space and for the vehicle to appear unmodified. Therefore, I wanted the amp and sub installed in the factory location (behind the driver side rear hatch panel.
Laketown finished my install in one day (awesome!). When I came to pick up the car and fired the ignition I expected to hear a better sounding sound system than the 20 year old infinity system that came with my vehicle.
Nope. This was not the case. The sound was honestly bad. It sounded like the highs were extremely "tinny" and the bass was almost non existent.
I went home and messed with my kenwood head units 13 band EQ in an effort to make it sound better. No luck. I was able to reduce the ultra tinny sound in the highs.. but it still sounded like the speakers couldn't produce any mid range. I kept thinking I must have messed up not taking the Laketown Reps advice and moving the sub location.
I woke up the next morning with a new idea... What if the amp that they installed had its own set of high and low pass filters for frequency? This of course was not a super easy thing to check due to the placement of the amp behind my interior panel. So, I just checked the owners manual.
Yep, it has crossover knobs for high and low pass filtering of the 4 channel and 1 sub channel.
Long story short - Upon disassembly of the rear interior panels and accessing the knobs, I found that the install individual had turned the knob on my low-pass filter all the way down to the low frequencies, and my high-pass filter all the way up. I mean all the way up.
A couple simple redirection-of-knob turns and THANKFULLY the upgraded system sounds MUCH better than the infinity OEM system.
I've talked to a couple of friends that have used other car audio install shops in the valley. They mentioned that after a system install, a tech would come out with a CD/Song Choice, and demo the system. Maybe if this would have happened the rep would have heard how bad it sounded and would have offered to trouble-shoot it for me.
Maybe I just needed to...
Read moreThis review is based on one experience and one individual. They will not like this review but this employee did something to spite me in the end, forcing me to make this review. My recommendation is to go elsewhere because customer service was non existent. I requested a slightly darker tint than technically allowed by state code because I wanted it the same all around(I don’t like the different shade from front to back). When I picked my car up after hours, I found that the rear windows had been tinted to 5% (Limo). I went back to tell this individual that there had been a mistake with the back windows because they were too dark. He argued with me and said that he did me a favor so why would I come back to complain. Finally after some arguing he agreed to re do it. When it was re done, they had re tinted the front windows to 50 percent which I had not asked to be changed. Needless to say, now I have two different shades of tint on my car. Not only did I not get what I wanted, I had to go back twice and it cost me 300 dollars. I will never go back.
Follow up to owners response: First of all, get off your high horse. I fully admit I asked for illegal tint, the thing is, your shop agreed to do it! You could have just as easily turned me away(which now I realize would have been a blessing). Regardless, I left your shop with illegal tint which was actually even darker than what I requested. That brings me to the point of quality, you did not even bother to do a final cleaning of the windows and left my car unsecured in the back with keys on the tire. Another thing I noticed is just about every car in your lot has illegal tint to include windshields. Don’t be a hypocrite and judge me for an infraction questioning my integrity and honesty. My biggest complaint was the customer service which your response obviously substantiates. You screwed me purposefully in the end so I’m giving you my honest feedback. We had an agreement for a service and you did not keep your end of the deal. You had the chance to make it right but you chose to...
