I booked this hotel 3 months before our stay. The week before our stay I decided I probably should call and make sure everything was still good for our reservation. I called....and called....and called...and called some more. I probably called at least 10 times at various times during different days, sometimes letting the phone ring for 5 minutes or more and no one ever answered. This made me pretty leery but a few days before our stay I got a confirmation email so I figured our reservation must still be good.
When we arrived at the hotel my husband loaded up the luggage cart (that had a broken wheel) while I checked in. Of course when I walked in no one was there to greet me. I waited for a few minutes until I saw a doorbell on the front counter and decided to ring it. An employee showed up to check us in. Only problem was, she couldn't get her computer to work. We stood there waiting for a good 30 minutes while she tried to get it to work and told us she would have to cal her boss at home to reset her. She finally told us that she would just give us a room key and we could come back later to check in when the computer was working again. OK?.... We weren't in a hurry but if we had been I would've been pretty upset.
When we got to our room it smelled VERY strongly of smoke and one of the reasons I booked this hotel was because it said it was a "non-smoking" hotel (cigarette smoke literally makes me sick). I returned to the front desk and asked if we could switch our room because it smelled like smoke. The girl at the front desk just looked at me like I was an idiot and told me she would switch us to the room across the hall. Well guess what....another smoky room. I was pretty put-out at this point. I returned to the front desk again and told her that this one also smelled heavily of smoke. She literally rolled her eyes at me and let out an irritated sigh and then said "well if I put you on the 2nd floor maybe that will be better". The customer service was horrible. Never once did she apologize for anything and she just acted like we were annoying to her. However, she did come up to check on us after we had moved to our 3rd room that FINALLY didn't smell like smoke.
One of the reasons we booked this hotel was the free breakfast. The breakfast was actually pretty good! My kids loved making their own waffles and there was a good selection of food. They had cereal, toast, bagels, yogurt, muffins, danishes, sausage, eggs (that could be made into an omelet), waffles, coffee, milk and juice.
The rooms in the hotel had recently been remodeled and look much better than the picture. Our room was fairly clean and comfortable and had the basic necessities (except for a safe which I was really hoping for). The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with lots of counter space. The air conditioner in the room did a good job of cooling it down. There was also a mini fridge, TV and microwave.
The hotel says that it has an exercise room but that's a stretch... it was literally a room with one treadmill. There was no other exercise equipment or even weights. There was no TV to watch while you were exercising and the room was about 90 degrees (I looked for a thermostat but couldn't find one). There was a water cooler with no cups and there were also no towels. Very disappointing.
The pool area looked nice although we never got a chance to use it. It was your standard indoor pool going up to 5 ft and it also had a hot tub. It looked clean and well taken care of.
Parking was fine. We never had a problem finding a close parking spot.
Overall I think I would rate this hotel a 3 out of 5. I would definitely take off points for the awful customer service, the smoky rooms and the...
Read moreFirst off I’m not sure why this place has 3.5 stars.I would say it’s about a 3.0 in my opinion. My overall stay was good because the people working front desk 2 out of 3 made my stay good. Let’s start off with the jacuzzi it has so much foam in it from not being drained. This is a basic motel so I did not expect much. The breakfast is ok the omelette had fake cheese on it and tasted gross. The only positive is the mini oranges and apples and yogurt. Also the coffee and tea selection was good.I bought my own food and ate breakfast in my room. The cleaning people are very sweet and clean the rooms pretty good. There is a lot of lower class type people staying here so maybe they don’t care about clean sheets or other basic things. The sheets did have black stains on them so possibly more bleach is needed. I stayed here awhile and switched to a different room. Here are the positives the towels were clean, room was quiet, location was great. Fridge was big and micro was small but perfect. The older Korean lady who works Monday through Wednesday mornings and the Indian guy who works nights were beyond nice and very accommodating. Now the negatives The younger asian looking girl was being nasty and rude it made my stay not so great. She argues and raises her voice if you try to nicely complain about anything. I had the cleaning lady keep pounding on my door even though I had do not disturb sign up and had just checked in night before. Was she going to enter my room if I was not there? I opened my door and all she said is sorry. At one point the young Asian looking girl even raised her voice at me when I was questioning her about items that I could not find in previous room. Her English is not that great so I nicely asked questions and then she got very rude. Jasmine the head manager is never around so if you have any issues Monday through Friday she will magically never be in.This place is run without manager on property. .Most people writing reviews for here only stay 1-2 nights max. 90% stay 1 night only so the reviews are not accurate. 2 of the 3 rooms I stayed in had stained sheets with black on them. Clearly not enough bleach is being used on the sheets. Also the cleaning people never vacuum underneath the bed frame so if you drop something it’s super dirty. The beds are very old probably the oldest beds I’ve ever slept on. Most of the matress’s are concaving in on the sides or middle. If you don’t have back issues you will after you leave here.I did get lucky and got a room with a good bed after moving. The ac units in 2 of the 3 rooms was so old it kept making loud rattling noises. The carpet is very old in all the rooms and my white socks were getting stained. If you stay here bring your own sheets and blankets. The fridge in 2 of the 3 rooms was missing shelves or had broken knobs to control temperature. They are large fridges though and hold a ton of food. The curtain is missing black out blinds so tons of light comes in so bring an eye mask. I had ear plugs and an eye mask otherwise I could not have slept here. All in because I came prepared with a lot of my own stuff my stay was decent. Photos below are beds that are sagging on the side or in the middle, The best way to make a change if you are not happy is to file a complaint with choice hotels since they are a part of...
Read moreI really liked the room I was in. The carpet was good quality and good condition. The tile work in the bathroom was very well done. The mattress (King) was comfortable and I was provided 5 pillows to choose from. There were sufficient electrical outlets to charge my devices and power my laptop. The hallways were sufficiently lighted, along with the parking area. Good wifi internet signal, with average connection speed. Even though the breakfast options weren't as numerous as a full out buffet, it had a pleasant variety with the eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, yogurt, juices, cereals, fruits and some pastries. The taste of the breakfast was very yummy, especially the eggs with the cheese folded in.
I didn't check out any other amenities, such as TV or pool, but based on just the room and the breakfast, this is definitely a 5 star hotel for the money. If I was comparing it to a hotel room in the range of twice what I paid, I would still rank it high with at least 4 stars.
The only thing that made me remotely uneasy was a walking path that went from the far side of the property through some overgrown trees to some lighted courts a short distance away. I would have liked to taken a walk but felt uneasy due to the path (not part of the hotel property) not being lit (it was night time) and the overgrown trees and shrubs being an easy place to get into trouble.
Getting to the hotel when arriving from the West or interstate exits (I-15 exits 291) closest to the hotel, is tricky. You are NOT allowed to make a left turn on State Street to go North from 12300 South (SR-71). When traveling from this direction you will have to make a RIGHT turn onto Minuteman Drive (driving South), get into the left lane and make a U-turn at the light (12450 South) to go North on Minuteman Drive, go through the light at 12300 South (Minuteman Drive then turns into State Street) until you pass the movie theater and water park on the right. This hotel is on the right (East) side of the road when driving North (towards downtown SL). If your GPS tells you that it is on the left (such as my Garmin did) you will need to ignore that...
