This theater and I go way back. Regal Hacienda is my childhood theater, I used to see all of my movies here growing up and made many great memories. So I do not leave this negative review lightly. I so badly wanted to continue loving this place. I don't know if it is just me, but without fail, all of my visits within the last few years have been marred by one issue or another. The consistency at which this theater has let me down has been flabbergasting.
The big attraction of this theater is the IMAX screen, the largest one without having to go all the way to the city to the Metreon. And it is the only reason I have been giving this theater many, many second chances. But my screenings have been plagued with stupid amateurish issues. I saw Top Gun Maverick where they started off the screening by playing the first 5 or so minutes of Jurrasic World Dominion instead, then they realized the issue and started the correct movie... with the audio off-sync by ~3 frames for the entire screening. So I talked to customer service and got a free voucher for my troubles. So I went and saw Top Gun Maverick again. For no reason, they turned on the lights for a good 8 minutes in the middle of the movie. So I got another voucher. I used it to watch Avatar Way of Water... only to have my reserved seats double-booked because the associate didn't key in my seats properly. I missed about 10 minutes of my screening and was placed in an inferior seat. I swore never to go back to this theater again until a friend wanted to see Furiosa here. I gave Hacienda another chance and was punished for my mistake. The screening went well until the final act... there was a big reveal and seemingly to take the wind out of the movie's sails, they TURNED ON the lights. This chain of incompetence is unacceptable, especially so if I am paying for premium screenings.
The issues aren't even isolated to the IMAX screenings. I saw RRR with a clearly visible skid mark around the top of the projection screen. I saw another movie here with the aspect ratio off and had to inform an employee about it, making me miss part of the movie.
Is a smooth screening without any issues too much to ask? Not really for most of the other theaters in the Bay Area that I enjoy visiting. But for Hacienda? Yes. Things like that light switch for the IMAX theater are just too tempting not to flick on.
I'll admit that after the remodel in 2020, the facilities are beautiful, especially the main lobby. But things like those are not what matters when you choose to see a movie at a theater rather than on streaming. Visit this theater if you enjoy playing russian roulette with whether or not your screening will be imperfect. Otherwise, stay far away from...
Read moreThis is a wonderful cinema so get me wrong. But on a movie putting a few days ago I had the worst experience ever! I felt embarrassed and that insulted. The movie theater was empty for the most part! I came to see Spider-Man with my daughter and partner for her birthday! After rushing from the Cheesecake Factory just to make our movie on time we got there 2 mins after the official start time! There were several workers behind the counter one taking an order! So I walked up to a different worker who was with other employees and asked them to please take my order as my movie had started and the other line was taking a while. Mine u I was the only person in line! He said he couldn’t take me cuz him and the other people we busy! I stood make in the line and not one min later another couple walked up and was helped immediately! When I quesowhy didn’t he take the next person in line he said I don’t know! I told him I’d informed u that my order was simple and my movie started and he told me he was busy doing “hotdogs”. We before my order is placed and while I’m missing my movie this guy who call’s himself Williams was very rude and said well my bad ur just missing the previews so ur ok! I was just so disappointed with the customer service. First I was very polite in asking for my order to be taking! ( this is a Karen free zone) and second I didn’t find it a problem to wait but to take others as u already have a line started is rude! And when called on it you rudely shrug ur shoulders oh well and proceed to mouth off! Look the movies are supposed to be relaxing and fun! I shouldn’t ever leave feeling disrespected and having experienced bad customer service! Good thing for him I didn’t make a it a big deal there but I really should have because I’m sure he’s this way all the time as the guy who took my order said to me I’m sorry for that! He’s kinda always like that! Any who just avoid the tall large young man named WILLIAM with short crayon 🖍 red curly hair and a REALLY BAD attitude. Especially if u want to enjoy your time post Covid-19 at the movies!...
Read moreThis is a hard review to write. While this is a very large and impressive theatre with quality viewing experiences. It has one problem that I've encountered here consistently out of all the theatres in the bay area I've personally gone too. Misbehaving adults and children with zero action from staff.
One of the first times I came here I saw a group of teens straight up bullying an old man who asked them to be quiet during a movie and even threw a bucket of popcorn at him while leaving the theatre. Staff did nothing when informed of the situation.
My most recent visit involved a couple of teens/adults in a movie they clearly snuck into as they got booted from there seats by actual ticket holders and had to move. They were talking the whole movie and started turning there flashlight on. I told them to stop and they snapped back at me. When informing staff. Absolutely nothing happened. They were allowed to bother the whole theater for the rest of the movie.
I have attended this theater many times in-between these two visits and a majority of the time there are people chatting, whispering, kicking the back of my seat, goofing off. I'm not sure what it is but this theatre either attracts a lower quality of people due to the area or lack of enforcement but I'm going to have to be cancelling my regal unlimited subscription because I haven't enjoyed watching a single movie here.
I wouldn't trust this place to be competent at solving this issue either no matter what they said to me. They have showed on multiple occasions they are too spineless to resolve anything. I wish it were not the case since this is a great theater in capabilities and is like right across the...
