Helpful and Caring Staff, Great location
Stayed here for 4 nights while attending an event at Metlife stadium nearby. The great thing about this hotel is its staff. Right from the time after booking and calling in to make some changes to our reservation(Lewis) to when we checked in, all of the staff was very helpfull.
The ladies manning the check-in were very helpfull in providing all information on bus schedule to get into Manhattan. The housekeeping staff promptly were cleaning the rooms each morning. The staff at breakfast area were constantly monitoring all food was refilled. During our stay, the hotel was fully booked and part of the days had some guests who were part of a wedding party. So it was a bit noisy and crowded in the breakfast area at times.
The NJ Transit bus stop for going into Manhattan is right outside the hotel. Rt. 163. Costs $9 round trip for adults and $4 for child, with no charge for children on weekends with paying adult. It drops you off at Port Authority bus terminal in about 30 mins and Times Square is a 5 min walk from there.
Hotel has plenty of parking, we parked in the front so that we could see our car from our 3rd floor room. Room was clean and cleaned up each day when we returned at night. Room sizes are not too large, typical of hotels in this area. There are quite a few restaurants few mins from this hotel on Patterson Plan Road (Rt. 120). Candlewyck Diner was one we went to that was pretty good. Rooms have refrigerator and microwave. Upon check-out, Tracy made sure to check with each guest if everything was ok. Few things that were not ok, but nothing could be done, so did not bother mentioning. The Beds and Pillows were not very comfortable for us. We resorted to sleeping on the floor from day 2 !! due to back and neck pain. Had checked with front desk on day 2 if they had alternative, thinner pillows, but they do not carry them. The pillows in room were of 2 kinds, feather field and foam. Both were too thick, almost like a cotton filled sack. Bed preference can vary by customer, so you may like them, but we did not.
The door to the washroom was little difficult to open and close due to the reduced gap with the frame. This caused noise to be made and startling for someone sleeping when opened at night. Should have reported, during our stay as we stayed for 4 days, but just were too busy with our schedule of visiting Manhattan and an event at Metlife.
Hotel has a pretty good Free Wifi. Make sure to not accidentally click on the paid upgraded fast wifi which the sign-in page shows by default.
Overall very satisfied we picked this property. Residence Inn by Marriott is also just across from this property and a good alternative in terms...
Read moreWhile Kevin, the front desk staff at this Marriott establishment, initially handled the first two problems in a polite manner, I was disappointed by his immature behavior when it came to addressing the third issue and onwards. Instead of resolving the concerns professionally, he resorted to unprofessional behavior, including hanging up on me and accusing me of yelling at him, despite my frustration being justified. This lack of professionalism was disheartening and did not meet the standards I expected from a Marriott establishment.
In terms of the rooms, I encountered several issues. The first room had some form of bodily fluid on the mirror, which was unacceptable. The second room had a heating and cooling system that made incessant clicking noises, causing discomfort for anyone trying to sleep. Finally, the third room had a blood stain on the sheets, which was extremely unsettling.
To make matters worse, when I requested a late check-out, the housekeeping staff were incredibly loud, disrupting my peace. I called down to the front desk to address the issue with Kevin, but he responded in an inhospitable manner, complaining about me "yelling at him" like a teenager. He even refused to answer subsequent calls.
In an attempt to resolve the situation, I called the front desk again and asked Kevin for an apology for his patronizing behavior. However, he doubled down and threatened to call the police if I didn't leave before 12:30, simply because I was writing a review. He mentioned his GM, Suresh, so I expressed my desire to speak with him. Suresh initially hesitated to provide his name and then proceeded to tell me that I had been a problem since my arrival. It was disheartening to be labeled as the problem when I was simply pointing out the shortcomings of the rooms and service, which should meet higher standards.
Overall, I would not recommend staying at this Marriott. The lack of professionalism, cleanliness issues, and poor customer service make it a subpar choice. It is advisable to consider other accommodations, such as a Motel 6, as this Marriott fails to meet basic expectations and even a hotel at that low of standard would never have staff that spoke this way to its guests. And yes, I am a Marriotts rewards member. The problem is obviously upper management not caring how lower management act because they don’t even care about the space itself.
P.S. the elevator is still operating and the door doesn’t close properly prior to the...
Read moreMy main issue with this property is cleanliness and whether the executives care enough to complete renovations of the hotel. The carpet and walls in the elevator were extremely old. It looks like they haven’t been renovated for a couple of decades. The elevator was also scarily slow to open. The carpet was also littered with debris. Perhaps the hotel staff should vacuum every few hours at least if the executives can’t be bothered to update. The lobby area was also pretty unkempt, especially the hard floors. Our room was pretty neat but it was evident the surfaces had not all been wiped down. Even the inside areas of the ironing board closet, it was evident that it is not cleaned, to include wiping down the hangers. The bath tub probably should be replaced because it’s gray from probably residue settling overtime. The shower curtains were new so that was good. The floors and the door frames, ceilings and walls all need to be renovated. It looks like there were patched up spots from damage. Also, the vent for the A/C unit, very disgusting and unsightly. There was dust, human particles and more in the vents. That can’t be good for what guests might be breathing in and it looks like that hadn’t been cleaned in also probably a couple of decades. These are all negatives that are most probably unnecessary as I’m sure this property brings in enough money for the execs to complete renovations, at least incrementally. The free breakfast...and just because something is free doesn’t mean lackluster should be acceptable. I want to emphasize that the staff is all sweet, however, the staff attendance to the breakfast service was very lackadaisical. First, they were standing in the areas where patrons were trying to retrieve breakfast. One of the staff looked to be organizing tea bags in a drawer. I was assured no one wanted tea. =( Three of them were aimlessly roaming about in that area while in the primary dining room a whole row of tables needed to be cleaned, sanitized and wiped down from prior servings. I had to ask if they could please wipe down the tables for a few of us to sit and consume. One of the cleaning ladies wiped one table and then turned to me to ask if she should wipe down another. That was odd if she sees that the other tables are dirty. She should be looking for it. The hot food was also not completely cooked. I don’t believe it’s beyond them to pay more attention to detail and be present. This is probably the worst Fairfield Inn...
