UPDATE December 2024: Construction going full steam ahead. All of what used to be the inside part of the Mall is shut down and being demolished. Macy's and Boscov's are the only remaining anchor stores and both are essentially freestanding. The AMC theater is still open as are a handful of other outer businesses like Buffalo Wild Wings. Sadly the best ever Christmas Santa is not longer here, he shall be missed! Of note, the Barnes and Noble store has moved to it's new location on the other side of Macy's. It is a beautiful store, worth a look if you like that kind of thing. The Starbucks is still inside.
UPDATE August 2024: New construction is finally moving forward. The old JC Penney and Lord and Taylor buildings are being demolished as I type this. Most of the interior is surprisingly still accessible to the public although almost all interior stores are closed. The food court is completely shut down although Buffalo Wild Wings is still open from the outside. Macy's, Boscov's, Barnes and Noble and the movie theater are still open. Inside Pink and Victoria's Secret are open but that's about it. It is only a matter of time that Boscov's will be off from the interior once they start demo on that area. For now it's still a decent place for an inside walk if you don't mind it being a bit creepy!
UPDATE March 2024: The phases of construction have begun on what will eventually be the new Monmouth Square. Expect changes throughout the coming months. At least part of the old mall will remain open. Not sure how good it will still be for walking once the main demolition starts. I will try to update.
As a shopping mall this is more accurately 2 stars, perhaps even 1. It is a shadow of it's former self. However it does have at least one redeeming value, it is a great place to walk indoors! I ho there occasionally when the weather is bad. There are usually a handful of others doing the same thing, power walking for exercise. So if walking is your movement of choice don't use weather as an excuse to skip a day. Just come here! One note, major renovations are due to start in the Spring of 2024. That may affect the areas...
Read moreIts a great theater, however with every given theater, there are going to be disruptive people. There were these two attendees that kept on getting up in the middle of the movie during crucial points and walking in front of me, across the theater, blocking my view. They did this 4 times before i spoke up and told them that I'd appreciate it if they didn't block my view and disrupt my viewing of the movie, and yet they still didn't stop. For one reason or another they kept on getting up and walking past my row and blocking my view instead of just using the stairs that were literally right next to their seats to get down. They chose to walk all the way across the row and disrupt everyone sitting in the row (my row), just to get to the stairs on the other side, when they just as easily could've used the stairs on their side. Now, this isnt the theaters fault but ive been to every theater in the area and i keep facing the problem of disruptive audience members who ruin the movie for others, either by walking in front of people blocking their view, talking, using their cellphone, bringing their crying baby to the theater, etc. Theaters should have an employee or usher sit in with the audience during the movie so they can remove/kick out any disruptive audience members. This would improve the moviegoing experience for everyone as they would not be bothered by anyone else being disruptive and can focus on the movie in front of them, which they PAYED to watch. I'm not trying to slander the theater or its employees, as I know that they work hard to make what can only be assumed as the minimum wage or something close to it, BUT we are all paying customers and we shouldn't have to suffer due to the disruptive behavior of other audience members who cannot behave themselves and their kids. Theaters should take preventative measures and action to ensure that disruptive customers are kicked out or removed so they dont disrupt other paying customers. I have...
Read moreStopped at the kiosk outside Macy's on the first floor that repairs broken cell phone glass and tablet glass. While the girl working the kiosk was in the process of looking up on her computer what type of tablet my son has (who was standing with me looking at the computer to find his tablet model ), and this guy and girl walk up on the opposite side of the girl and just bust into my conversation , cutting me off, and this ignorant little b---h puts her shattered phone on the counter and just started rambling about what happened to her phone and the girl at the kiosk turned to the girl, picked up her phone and started taking it apart. So my son and I looked at each other (he 's 10 by the way) and I said to him nice and loud as we left : " it's amazing how ignorant people are, this is exactly why I hate coming to the mall , because of ignorant mall rats like that , don't you ever become like that , she just lost a sale...
