I am an El Pasoan who remembers billboards on I10 westside in the 1960's announcing that "Sunland Park Mall is Coming Soon!". For many years though there was only dirt in the proposed area. BUT, finally, the grandeur of Sunland Park Mall was realized - The Popular complete with The Greenery, Dillard's, Sears, a varied food court, lots of upper scale specialty stores. It was a beautiful place for all kinds of shopping, including window shopping. It was a destination for families and friends to walk the mall, to run into friends who are doing the same thing, to enjoy a social outing, and to shop for items of all price points. My last visit to the mall in Feb 2018 was a wonderful afternoon during which I was treated to a birthday dinner by friends since my high school days. The restaurant and the mall were no where near as busy as they used to be. Many stores (including food court restaurants) were gone, leaving their empty shells. At a previous occasion I was fortunate to meet a wonderful family who bought a franchise barbeque that is located in the Sunland Park Mall food court. They are local El Pasoans who are working hard to provide an excellent product to their customers and also to provide a living for their family. The mall is an opportunity for the family members to stay here in El Paso and to provide a better economy for the city of El Paso. ALL of the stores in this mall contribute to our local business economy as well as to the personal economy of our residents by providing jobs, tax dollars, and opportunities for local, regional, and national existing and new businesses. Companies looking to relocate or expand want to go to cities that have a vibrant business and cultural economy. I know many people peruse and purchase items on the internet rather than at stores. But you can go to the mall and bring your family and friends. You can have a great time going to the brick and mortar shops and you can help support...
Read moreI attended the 4th of July event yesterday. My experience was very poor. I attended with my children who wanted to go into the jumping balloons. I took them to he one next to black flag and it was more of an obstacle course. Everything was fine the first go around. We ventured upstairs to the food court because there wasn’t many kid friendly options outside. It was packed up there because people were hot from being outside. Not a big issue just lack of seating. We go back down and outside. It got too hot so we got back inside and I let my kids go back to the obstacle course jumping balloon and there was a child in there just being extra rowdy and pushing kids around and being mean. The person who was supposed to be watching the balloon stood at the side of the balloon and watched the kid and didn’t say anything about it. Then kids from outside who were on the water slide went inside and made the obstacle course wet and my kids stunk. So I ended that. We ended up waiting outside in my vehicle for the fireworks to start for over an hour. I feel the event was not planned properly because while we waited in our car the parking lot was so full and packed I watched a vehicle almost run over some kids who were sitting behind the cones and out of the way. Parents were yelling for them to stop. Then comes the fireworks which were fantastic. Now the worst part was trying to leave. The parking lot was full of people who were cutting others off trying to get out of there. It was unorganized and dangerous. Thankfully a pedestrian started traffic control while your security officers stood there and did absolutely nothing!
I have a loved one who works in your mall and I can honestly say this was a money chase with crappy planning. Your stores were not busy just the inside of the mall so people could cool down. The employees have families and closing everything up at 9pm on a holiday is unfair to them. I hope you never do this...
Read moreWe are very fortunate indeed to have Sunland Park Mall. "You don't know what you have until you loose it", an old adage that still rings so true. After two years or so of being restricted to indoor activities, the Mall is something that we all need to rediscover. Welcome back friends and family!! Go ahead, enjoy the freedom of a comfortable stroll, how about some absolutely revitalising window shopping, or just simply treat yourself to some refreshing and thought provoking self indulgence. Don't just stay home, make the Patrons Happy! Go out there and make someone's day for a change. BTW just for reference, you have the best Gentleman's clothing store in El Paso!! DMZ is the Best kept secret I've just Discovered. It rivals some stores in New York, been there and Done that! Pricing is Excellent without sacrificing Quality. The Wools have a high standard of quality, and the styles are a treasure of design, an exceptional store inside of what most of us had so conveniently forgotten to rediscover!! There are tailors in the premises! I will definitely go back, b/c dealing with people Face to Face is the best thing that could've ever happened to us. There's nothing like trying on something that you definitely like, and probably deserve. Happy...
