HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH LORI! Went in 2 weeks prior to seek membership to use kiln. I’m new to pottery and been doing lots of handbuilding. I inquired about membership to use the facility and kiln and somehow Lori convinced me of an upcoming class that was starting in 2 weeks from that day (today). She never mentioned the price nor discussed anything I needed ahead of time and today, my husband and I came in for our first class and before she took my payment, I had some questions about the class and she seemed rathered annoyed at my questions. She then asks me if we brought any tools or clay with us and I was shocked as I would have been prepared to bring all my supplies. I told her we can just buy some clay and my husband asked if we will be given tools to use and she took her glasses off looked at him and said “you didn’t bring your tools either?!!” She then with an attitude says “well what did you expect you would be doing today?” In a very condescending tone. There was another guest next to us who heard the whole conversation. I told her “I’m sorry, but you never told me any of this when we first came in nor was it anywhere on the paperwork you sent with us or I would have been prepared”..she looked at me and then said “well do you want to take this class or not?!”...at that point, I said “what part of what I’ve said is telling you I don’t want to take this class?”...I was asking her legitimate questions about making classes up if we miss them, etc..HER TONE WITH ME WAS UNACCEPTABLE I was so taken back by it as a new student. Even when I met her the first time, she laughed at something I said incorrectly and continued talking. She also seemed a bit pretentious when I first explained to her I’ve been using airdry Clay.. she seemed to roll her eyes and stay quiet when I looked at her.. At that point I felt something was off with her. But I will warn anyone considering this class, she has an attitude. She seems miserable and not kind! If you are new and looking for a friendly, happy teacher to be patient with you, SHE IS NOT the one! I hope lots of people become aware of her bitterness and seek classes elsewhere. Good...
Read moreI LOVE THIS PLACE!!! When I first went to Art Space on Main I had some experience with the potters wheel but after taking the initial class with Lori I learned more in that time than in the prior 18 mos. at another studio. I found Lori to be approachable, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Yes, they are fastidious about Covid-19 rules regarding masking and cleaning after you're done. As Lori is a nurse she has a good sense of how to keep her client/students safe. Yes, they do require masks regardless of your supposed "medical conditions, natural immunity, or religious exemption". Those may be great excuses for you but not for any at-risk folks in an enclosed space as you may be an asymptomatic carrier. If you want to learn the right way to work with clay, this is the...
Read moreThis is a great studio with a great set up. From a potters perspective, they have everything. All the equipment you could want and an overwhelming number of glazes. The people are all very friendly, including the owner and her daughter. I genuinely like coming here to make stuff.
I know there are negative reviews on this page, but they are mostly about the mask policy. The owner has every right to enforce it in her own business and we all happily follow it. I have personally witnessed customers come in though and be belligerent about the policy, which is uncalled for. If you are considering whether to come in or not, I would not give any of the one star...
