I’ve eaten here a few times in the past, and while I’ve never considered writing a review for this place, today has been my deciding factor. Starting with the food, it’s not my top choice. Breakfast food is arguably the cheapest food to make, and while I understand there is always a cost to run a business, the markups here seem unreasonable. In early January of 2024, I bought a small breakfast for myself and a friend. The breakfast was an order of biscuits and gravy, a potato bowl (I can’t remember the exact name of the dish.), and a small coffee. The total price, not including tip, was $35. The portions weren’t small by any means, but I still cannot reason why that amount of food is that price. I work for small businesses, and I’ve worked in the food industry for the last 8 years. I understand cost margins and inflation, but again, these numbers just do not add up to me. I like that the business shows off artwork of local artists. I think this is something every small business should do, especially in a town that prides itself on arts. I also like the rustic feel of this place. The wooden tables and easy decor make the place enjoyable to dine at. Now, the owner, Isabel, is one of the rudest people I’ve met. Every time I’ve gone into the establishment I’ve heard her not only yell at, but full out berate, her employees. As an employee of a small business, and being a human in general, this is incredibly disrespectful. Not only should you never speak to your staff in such a way, but belittling them in front of your customers is incredibly unprofessional. There also seems to be a misunderstanding of where her property ends and public space begins. While there are businesses on the street that have dining areas that bleed into the street parking, it is my understanding that those became their property during Covid times. Spork and other businesses on the road, however, do not have this same property line as their outdoor dining area is on the extended sidewalk. The road and parking along the road, with the obvious exceptions of the dining areas of the earlier mentioned restaurants, is open to the public. For some reason, Isabel is under the impression that the spaces near her building belong to her. If any businesses deserve to claim those spots, it’s the doctors office and the tattoo shop that are directly in front of those spots. On April 26th, 2024, Isabel was caught, wrongfully placing notes on cars parked in those spots because she believes they belong to her. While one could argue there are “3 hour parking” signs posted along the road, these parking rules have not been put into use since COVID. Even farther up the road by the courthouses, where there are still parking meters, these rules are not in effect their either. While I would love to support all businesses in town, I have a very hard time supporting someone who is not only nasty to her staff, but to everyone who doesn’t come into her restaurant but utilizes other businesses on the road. If you don’t believe me, you can see for yourself farther back in Spork’s Facebook posts, and if those are deleted by now, just look at the responses to the negative...
Read moreWe heard that Turkiye Kebab House Mediterranean Cuisine was going to start serving breakfast so we decided to head over. On the way. We realized they weren't open quite yet and so we looked for something close to where we were that had good reviews.
Legends on Main fit, the bill. The food service and atmosphere did not disappoint. They are in the process of putting up a mural for each window at the entrance outside. They have contracted someone from the arts council. You can see it all taped up and ready to be painted in the photos. We will definitely be back to see how it looks and have another meal.
I was hemming and hawing between two different options and asked the server for a little more detail on both. He answered like he was preparing a five-star restaurant menu description. No surprise. Once I found out that he was a trained chef. He made the food come to life in his words and I couldn't wait to order and eat my breakfast.
My husband got the breakfast bowl with Grandma's biscuit. All the thumbs up! I got the avocado toast and a single pancake which is not on the menu but is available to order. All the thumbs up!
We had coffee which came with oat milk for me and was delicious. I commented on the coffee to Jason, the server, and he said it wasn't even their regular one. They had gotten it by mistake. I'm not sure what made it so good. Maybe it was the cinnamony notes in it but it was delicious.
I asked Jason to record his description of the avocado toast and that created a little bit of a raised eyebrow from the employees seeing me videotaping him. But that led to us having a very nice chat with the owner and meeting him made us like the place even more.
Now on to the bathroom. I'm sorry to say it is not the A+ that I would give the rest of the place. The toilet was a hovercraft model... girls, IYKYK. But really that's my only complaint. It was a gender-neutral single stall and plenty big for a wheelchair. C minus but I would use it again.
Pee or pass?...
Read moreNice breakfast spot! Upfront, the location is great, but the concept needs work. EDIT: "Spork" is a really cute name, but I didn't see any and I didn't get one to eat with. They have a ton of wildlife photos on the walls for sale, but without frames. They would be better in nice frames, but the best thing to get on yhe walls would be some spork art. Make pinwheels. Paint them bright colors like flowers. Hang a bowl in the middle for the flower center. I LOVE all of the different tables and chairs. Front counter and pastry case are nice. The orange walls are not very attractive, I think a bright-ish yellow could be really pretty. The front cases look like they have old rummage sale stuff in them, but is that stuff for sale? Or it's just there? With that amount of light, you could consider some big diorama type thing with breakfast characters, which I think could be very cool. And then there are things for sale at a table in the corner and a post card rack with more wildlife. So the only thing that the appearance has in common with a spork is that it just doesn't know exactly what it wants to be yet. ...But that takes nothing away from the friendly staff and the food! We had a breakfast platter and a ham, cheese, and egg croissant. Both so so so good. The sausage gravy was awesome. To drink, we had Irish coffee and a grizzly bloody mary, also yum! Also, a breakfast spot that has drinks! They also had "flights" of mimosas and bloody marys...
