The Curry Bowl Kitchen Jamaican Food and Vegan Fast Food — Restaurant in Elkton

I'm not sure where to start. The customer service is great however I specifically stated that I wanted rice and peas with my food and that I could pay over the phone in that moment to ensure my portion of rice and peas. I get to the establishment later than planned (I called to update the business about my timing, said all was well.) I get my food and leave. I slowed down to look and taste my food before I left and I noticed that it was plain (emphasis on PLAIN) white rice and not rice and peas. It was bad enough there were no plantains on this particular day so I damn sure wasn't eating the white rice. I go back inside the establishment and at first, the young man was like “we ran out, you were running late” to which I replied “you said my food was safe and I said I wouldn't even want the food in the first place if all you had was white rice, I don't like it”. Another gentlemen comes out and in that moment one pops out from the back and said something about a side of rice and peas. So they ended up giving me a small container of rice and peas and I left. I get home and open the container and just start laughing. They must have just dropped 5/6 kidney beans in some white rice because it was still the nasty plain white rice. Plain rice can be yummy when seasoned, this was not the case, at all! I honestly feel mislead on the rice and peas situation and the jerk tofu was lousy, cabbage- lousy. No flavor, no seasoning, no herbs, just no effort. If y'all let the jerk sit on the tofu longer it might come off more intentional vs an after thought with no real thought. Like I said customer service was cool, just...

I ordered a Curry Chicken Platter, this was my first time ordering from here, explained it to Slee who answered the phone...I had been wanting Curry Chicken and cabbage for awhile. I explained that I didn't want Plantains, he said he would add more cabbage which was great. It was around 5pm and they only had delivery through GrubHub, I decided to send my son to pick it up just in case Grubhub wouldn't be able to get it in time. My son brings the food to me...well , there was NO CURRY SAUCE AT ALL ON ANYTHING, INCLUDING THE CHICKEN !!!!! AND GUESS WHAT ???? THERE WERE PLANTAINS!!! Long story short, I called Slee, explained, he apologized and said they would take care of it Tuesday....well today is Tuesday and they decided to give me some CABBAGE....nothing else, did not honor replacing the platter....I was told not to order from them due to the smell of garbage in and around their store .... I have never been to the store myself, so would not judge them based on what I was told. All, I will say, is NEVER AGAIN, IF YOU DO ORDER, PICK IT UP AND CHECK IT BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE !!!!!! THEY DON'T HONOR...

EXCELLENT food. It's so refreshing to see island flavors represented in Cecil County, and to see vegan options on the menu. The oxtail is DIVINE, but the jerk chicken, curry chicken, jerk shrimp (HOT!), sides, and beef patties are all quite yummy too. We have loved everything we've tried. It's worth mentioning that we just visited for the first time last night...and then went back tonight for ourselves and to share with my dad. He loved everything too. My only critique, or perhaps recommendation for diners, is that this is clearly a small, locally owned and run business, which means it may just be the owner who is running the whole show. We had some minor snags with getting our order right both nights, but when it is a small or single person crew and they are busy, it's not a huge deal. The quality of food and generous correction of any issues more than compensate for the hiccups. Go hungry. Try all the things. Go back again....
