If I could write a review with a "zero" star rating, I would. Writing on behalf of my uncle. His experience on 5/18/2017 left him highly insulted & humiliated. Local farmer who purchased from the store regularly. Returned a defective product that was guaranteed for 4 years from purchase. At time of return told customer service rep of defect and that he wasn't certain when he purchased but knew the can of roofing cement was not older than the warranty period. Customer service rep checked records in their system, contacted another member of the team, & issued an in-store credit. He shopped in the store. At the checkout line the store manager abruptly came up to him & took the credit out of his hand and ripped it up in front of him. He said, "you don't have your receipt and the can is rusty. Don't you ever try doing this again!" My uncle recounted that he had no idea as to what was happening & was extremely humiliated. He left the store in shock.
If there was an issue with the return this should have been resolved at the customer service counter and not in front of other customers while he was making a purchase. It is clear this manager has no customer service skills and Menards allows him to represent their Escanaba store.
Further, my uncle mailed a letter of this incident to Menards Corporate. They kindly acknowledged his letter and advised they have asked the Escanaba store manager to investigate his claim. Crickets. No further response. In all reality that was a poor response by the Corporate location. If the incident stemmed from the store manager the Corporate team should investigate directly. The response was passive and "just going through the motion".
My uncle did find the original receipt which he confirmed he purchased in June 2016 with cash. He not only was degraded publicly by the store manager but now is without product or reimbursement.
Extremely poor service! Extremely poor response from Corporate in...
Read moreMenards customer since 1984- Madison, WI. Currently, Escanaba. MI. Like most box-stores, buyer beware, many screws are burred, (use a clean exacta knife blade when removing the metal sliver) and many of their screw heads strip easily. Nails weak, lumber bowed and forget help if u need to pull down a sheet of plywood. If purchasing elec outlets, be sure to grab a 3 prong cord and see if it fits the prong slots, unless after a few uses you want to pull the outlet out of the wall outlet box. Bottom line, u get what u pay, especially with so many china made products. For the most part, customer service has been good in part and horrible in other areas. The return employees do a good job dealing with many issues, the receipt kiosk is a great feature. I am told corporate is not happy with so many returns. Store hours; are very good.
Number one complaint, limited number of cashiers! For the past year or more, the number of cashiers is, one or two. Three is a..omg jump to the third one, that just opened, which, in many cases is a curse, because there seems to be a lot of their products without product scan bar. (love the wood with the stickers on the good side. (not) Very frustrating to have to be in line with three small products and have to wait for customers with a cart full of groceries or small products. Recently the lines stretch far because of so few cashiers. Suggestion...self scanners, and more cashiers. "Hoping for a Home Depot to move in!"
Returns, if the store, had enough employees, and were versed in the products area they work, perhaps customers would be less likely to purchase the...
Read morePlaced and paid for an online order July 2nd for 5 pro packs of window casing. Had not gotten any update by July 8 so I called order/deliveries department to check on it. Was told it was picked and ready for pick up. Drove an hour to the store only to find out that they only had 3 of the 5. Turns out they had the same item in stock on the floor as 24 single pieces. Spoke with the manager of the department (Chuck) who would not let us have the 24 individual pieces to fill our order. Asked to speak with the manager and was told he was the manager, but I could try my luck at the service desk. Walked all the way up there only for them to call the man I was just talking to and be told no they would not pull the identical casing out of single piece stock to make up the rest of the order. Working for non profit Habitat for Humanity I do my best to save money, but it is really obvious that this business really could care less about making their mistakes right. We will have to make the 2 hour round trip again to pick up the balance of the order that has already been paid for. ...
