This was such a fun, unique experience! We did the dinner train. If you want prime rib you need to order way in advance because they only offer so many prime rib tickets and there were none left for this trip even though it was booked 3 weeks in advance. Boarding is 30 minutes prior to departure. Please be in time! As we were leaving, we saw a couple stopped at the railroad crossing trying to get into the parking lot, dressed nicely, waving goodbye to us, the lady was crying (they missed the train!) so keep in mind they do keep to a schedule (which I actually really appreciate!). If you can, purchase 4 tickets (go with friends or another couple) because all of the tables that seat 4 were on the side with the best views, the other side of train which had all the two seated tables, definitely didn't have the water views like we did. The views, the food, the wait staff, the conductor were all amazing! There is a drink menu that you pay for separately at the end and I highly recommend, because there were so delicious, refreshing and strong lol. There was pleasant old style music (think Sanatra but just music no words) playing softly in the background which really added to the experience. The dining trains are air conditioned, so if you're going in the summer or early fall it is very comfortable to dine. We were served a charcuterie board, salads and the main course on the way up. Once the train reaches it destination, you go backwards on the track (I thought it would make a loop around but you are looking at the same view on the way back as you did on the way up). That was totally fine, I just switched my seat so I wouldn't get motion sick. On the way back we were served coffee and a delicious desert. It was all timed perfectly. Everyone on our car was repsectful. There was no loud tables or obnoxious guests. Everyone was just enjoying a lovely evening. The couple next to us was celebrating an anniversary so they popped open a champagne bottle for them. They were dressed very nicely. We went more casual. It was a mix of people but everyone kept to themselves and seemingly had a great time. I wouldn't recommend bringing children on this. It really is an enclosed space and a crying child or misbehaving child could definitely ruin it for everyone and I can see a young child being very bored as it's a long trip. Thankfully there were none on our trip so it was peaceful and relaxing. We had a slight mishap on the way back where our car lost power (lights and air-conditioning went out). The conductor stopped the train for a few minutes to fix the issue. It did get hot in there quick without the air so luckily he got it back on for us. That didn't affect my overall review though because the experience was just so fun and different....

Read moreI cannot say enough about how wonderful the Essex Steam Train was for our wedding!!! They listened to us, they were so accommodating, they paid attention to every little detail, and the food was amazing. Our wedding planner switched half way through - that’s a tough transition for both the bride and groom and the planner - but they handled it flawlessly. (For the record both planners were amazing, the first one just left for a new opportunity!) We had a larger wedding than most of the parties that take place there and they were able to accommodate our guests and provided extra bars to make sure that there was never a huge line. The space looked amazing and they added so many upgrades throughout the 10 months we were planning - more lights on the ceiling, gold chiavari chairs, outdoor lighting - all things that just added to the ambiance. The venue is so incredibly unique - it’s a functioning train station! Our photos really stood out against the backdrop there - pictures between the rows of trains were breathtaking! Our bridal suite was actually a renovatedtrain car which was so cool and beautiful and provided plenty of space and they also allowed our guests to board a dinner car during cocktail hour. Speaking of cocktail hour - it was like a garden party - beautifully done! And tons of food too! Our day was absolutely perfect and we cannot thank Meredith, our planner, and the staff at the Essex Steam Train enough!! Our guests are still raving about the venue and the food. Thank...
