Hands down the best record store on the south coast.
I feel like there’s a common flaw in a lot of us who collect vinyl and it’s super present in a lot of record stores. It’s a superiority complex. They keep a lot of niche or obscure inventory and will engage you in conversation that attempts to shame you for enjoying music that everyone has heard of. If you’ve been in enough record stores or talked to enough collectors then you know the type. There are a lot of them. But every once in a while you come across someone else who just really loves music and isn’t interested in any of the gatekeeping. This is that place. The owner is a guy who genuinely enjoys music and vinyl records, checks any snobbery at the door and is just as keen to give a Dua Lipa album a spin as Abby Road.
The shop is small but he keeps his inventory fresh and well curated. He isn’t stocking his shop with filler just to make it look like the store is flush. Every record is there because it should be- and it IS flush. It’s impossible to leave empty handed because more often than not you’re trying to decide which albums you want most.
Prices are never unfair.
Thanks for creating a welcoming spot where I can buy great music at...
Read moreI stopped into this record store as my son moved to Umass Dartmouth college and i'm an avid vinyl collector . This is a great store with a varaity of different styles of music and a great variation of Used and New records , books , magazines , and collectible music memorabilia . The owner John is a very nice and helpful owner and isn't one of those store owners just interested in taking your money with minimal conversation . He is very knowledgable and his prices are very fair indeed . He has a top range vinyl cleaner in the store and a great system should you want to check out the playability of a certain record . Its located in a quiet area , but it's stores like these that makes collecting records great . Even his customers engage in general conversation . Im sure John has many regular customers as i seemed to meet quite a few in the short time i was in there ! I am glad to have found his store and will be a regular now ...
Read moreIf you are looking for vinyl, whether just getting into it or old pro, you need to stop in at Max J Records in Fairhaven. Max J’s has a great selection from Classic Rock and Reggae to Blues, Jazz, Country, etc. including vintage vinyl, new releases, 45s, and CDs. They get new records every day so stop in and see John, great guy, and very helpful. This store is a (not so) hidden gem. Prices are reasonable; from the $3 bin to pricier original vintage records (some great re-issue albums as well). The toughest part is fighting off the nostalgia when you find something you have not seen in years! (Do I really need another _...
