Great store, selection, kind staff, & a welcoming environment!
We were a long way from home from the west coast and are in Arkansas unfortunately due to a family member not doing well. My dad and I had just come from a really rough day at the hospital, and needed a distraction. We both love Magic, and a new set had just come out this weekend, so we went to search for and LGS in the area and thank god we found this place.
We started wandering inside, and there's an excellent collection of board games, plushies, minis, accessories, and knick knacks. And the DICE. Don't get me started on the dice. I love the shinies and the pretties more than your average person and their fancy dice case had some of the most beautiful sets I've ever seen. I WISH my local store back home had anything like those, or that I had enough money to clean out the case before I fly home!
We showed up right after they had started a prerelease event, so the place was pretty packed but they were kind enough to let my dad and I buy and box and just play our own games outside of the tournament.
I can't even begin to explain how kind, welcoming, and friendly everyone was, from the staff to the players. I don't know how they've cultivated such an environment, but it was truly wonderful.
I wish I had gotten the name of the lady at the counter who was helping us out with any questions because she was just amazing & attentive. Great taste in dice and cool tattoos! She gave me some inspiration for my next piece.
We played there for 3-4 hours and by the end of it I had had so many conversations with people there who just treated us like we were regulars or friends they already knew. I can't explain how much it meant to have that kindness and comfort after coming out of a hospital not sure if our family was going to get better or not. It was a much needed distraction and helped improve our day a lot.
My only regret is that I can't somehow take this location and it's people and teleport them back home with me. Anyone looking for a fun place to be, new hobbies to explore, or just somewhere to kill some time should come and check out Gear Gaming.

Read moreI usually have great experiences at local game stores, and I hoped this one would be the same. However, when I arrived today, I wasnât greeted upon entering the store. Instead a lady approached me when I began looking at products and asked me in a cold tone if I was looking for something specific. I told her, yes, I was looking for a particular PokĂ©mon TCG set that I have occasionally seen stocked at other local game stores. She told me that they very rarely get that in, and provided no extra details or recommendations and made it sound like I was not welcome in the store. Upon thanking her, I received no response and not another word was spoken to me as I left the store.
Now I understand the Pokémon TCG hobby is very difficult these days for local game stores to deal with, but this level of customer service is unlike anything I have ever seen before. I do not think this is representative of Gear Gaming as a whole, but the lady that worked with me today clearly does not understand what professional customer service looks like. She very well may be the same woman other recent reviewers have commented on. As a collector new to the hobby, I left feeling disappointed and also highly unlikely to return to this location in the future.
Edit: Very kind, professional response from the owner. I appreciate you listening to my comments, and I will definitely give yâall another try...
Read moreThe store is a general gaming store, from warhammer to weiss or magic the gathering, they have the stuff to make it work. There's regular events on days for specific days. The card games tend to do better than tabletop, which tends to suffer from a lack of employee knowledge on games like that.
I don't mean to say they know nothing, but rather the sheer number of games they support means specialized game knowledge is hard to come by, as it will vary from employee to employee.
I can say more specifically that killteam events used to happen on Thursdays on a regular basis. However, some drama occured, and with nobody in the store really playing too, what between being busy and never having played, (again, varies by employee) the event essentially died. Weiss players also come in on Thursdays, and to my knowledge still regularly see players.
I think Saturday has a regular 40k game, and with that there are generally a few players.
Their is currently an additional space being added, the purpose of which was, at the time, rumored to be for a video game room. Maybe they'll have additional tables too, but that remains to be seen.
Overall, if you've a card game to play, or some off the wall board game (they have plenty to choose from ;D ), they have you covered. If you're into table top army games, it is more...
