UPDATE: Two pulmonologists have confirmed lung damage from toxic fumes, consistent with chloramine poisoning. The Health Department is still investigating, now bringing in air quality specialists from Little Rock. Sadly, Washington Regional has ignored patrons safety. PLEASE BEWARE, ESPECIALLY AVOID THE THERAPY POOL!
Edit: I must revise my review. Recently, within the last few weeks, the pools have been very dirty, with cloudy water, yucky particles floating in the water, and scum accumulating on the bottoms of both pools. The smell was odd and I asked if they used chlorine. The lifeguard said he didn't know. Last week, the entire pool area was closed, with no explanation. When it reopened 5 days later, it was sparkling clean and smelled fresh. I asked why it was closed, and the receptionist said the "PH was off". One of the trainers confirmed they use chlorine and it is the lifeguard who dispenses it. Again, he was evasive. It is well known that chlorine interacts with waste particles, such as skin, oils, urine and fecal matter, to produce chloramines. In an indoor pool without adequate ventilation, these heavy fumes settle on the surface, causing respiratory irritation that could be serious, especially for some of the medically-compromised patrons here. The supervisor, Robert, said his "hands are tied" and he could not provide any information or assistance. I had no choice but to cancel my membership. I sure hope they uppity-ups at Washington Regional will inspect the cleaning & chemical records, as well as the ventilation system and air quality, for the safety of their patrons. More transparency might be too much to ask, but I believe in telling the truth, not trying to cover up mistakes.
My first review: Washington Regional Center for Exercise has become an almost daily ritual for Hubby and me. We recently moved to Fayetteville and visited several fitness centers. WRCE exceeded all our expectations.we love the bikes, the circuit machines, the classes, and the pool is a wonderful wind down. We only wish the Center could stay open until noon on Saturdays. Hopefully, as membership increases, that may happen. Silver Sneakers are paid by their insurance. Even without SS, membership is only $60/month for a senior couple. Worth...
Read moreThe facility is great! Front desk staff (Ms. Merri) is friendly and very helpful. There are many exercise options, free weights, treadmills, various bikes, and of course the guided equipment. Staff are on the floor for questions. The pool looks welcoming, I am just slowly increasing my routine. One of the staff said they are are waiting for a water class instructor, but there is lane swimming at specific times, open swimming, also at specific times, and they also have a walking lane.
The facility is clean and also provides sanitation wipes once someone has finished using an exercise station. Towels are also provided! Other patrons seem friendly. Parking can be limited, depending on the time of day, so it may be necessary to have to walk on the outside of the building around to the rear entrance of the Center. Interior doors were locked due to some Washington Regional safety policies on my first visit.
I am very happy I joined. My insurance provides Silver Sneakers, which is acceptable, and I find this facility to be nicer than one I was a member of in...
Read moreThe Center for Exercise at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, offers a pleasant workout experience with a well-rounded set of Cybex machines, including many with handicap-accessible features, as well as a traditional set of barbells and dumbbells. There are also a great variety of cardio machines, including treadmills, stationary and recumbent bikes, elliptical machines, and rowers, among others. This full-service fitness center also sports a pool, group exercise room, and clean locker rooms. Personal trainers are available for an additional fee, if you are that way inclined. One drawback for some people may be their hours of operation, which are somewhat shorter than other gyms I've been a member of. Below is a photo of their hours. Otherwise, the staff is friendly and the equipment and facility are well maintained. I recommend this...
