keep in mind that this review reflects the experience of a smaller group (2-3 people) favorite game: dead man's hand (cohesive and cool ending) least favorite: alchemist (confusing game overall) pros: games are challenging yet feel (and are) escapable, the theming and decor is all very nice and immersive, they offer time extensions if you don't escape in the time allotted for $5/person, employees are all very nice, place is clean, free unlimited clues cons: in the experience I've had all the games have one puzzle that's unnecessarily long and frustrating, for example decoding a whole paragraph when you could have just decoded 3 words and been set, puzzles that take 5+ mins to complete after you figure out exactly what to do take me right out of the game, bore, and frustrate me and I found that there's at least on puzzle like this in every game at spymaker. I like that it's free unlimited clues however, I wish the game masters could send you little things for example, we try to take something off the wall and say to eachother "I don't think it's gonna come off" spend a few minutes looking around before we ask for a clue and get told "take that off the wall" I wish when they hear us deciding it won't come off they could say "don't be afraid to take that down" or something. another example is when you do a puzzle correctly but maybe got a piece mixed up I wish they could say "you had the right idea try that again" instead of wasting time trying to figure out what else it could be before giving you instructions for what you just did when you ask for a clue. those things can get frustrating. also something I've found consistent thru all games here, there will be like 30 of a certain object and only 1 unmarked one has something hidden inside of it, that definitely gets annoying, I wouldn't mind if it had something about it to say "inspect me further" but it just feels tedious the...
Read moreWe did Spymaker. I really liked the beginning of the game and it flowed well. There was a puzzle that was broken and it really made us waste so much time. This ruined the experience for me. Even though they gave us 5 of the 15 min we wasted back, it didn’t make up for the bad experience for me. Sad, because this was rated so high and I was excited to try this one, but I couldn’t get back in the swing of the game after multiple GMs had to come in and fix our game. I’m all for tech and fancy puzzles, but only if they work. Lock and key never does me wrong lol.
Also, about 15 min into our game a different GM came in to start resetting it. After she realized we were playing she left quickly. But I just feel like that should...
Read moreCrazy puzzles and amazing twists. Done something like this before but it wasnt done nearly as nicely. Instead of a cramped room with only a few puzzels we were emptied out into a multiroomed adventure with several different activities to each room. I wouldn't want to give anything away, but from what i hear they change the games each time and i can see how with the assortment of puzzels. I'll have to come back and see for myself! Inspector Laclue definietly knows where its at lol Game master was helpful but keep in mind, you'll need to have everyones consent in getting a clue, but also that the clues are limitless so theres no getting horribly stuck from inexperience, and that everything you'll need to know is...
