Update as of early Jan 2023 (apologize for the delay in updating this review): In Jan 2023, the Care coordinators of my Insurance company arranged for a conference call with the representative of Lakeside Eye Care, with an intent to have this long pending billing issue resolved. The conference call was not a pleasant one. The outcome was that Lakeside Eye Care closed my account with them after writing off the balance.
THE END
Update as of Dec 01 2022: Since I had not heard back from the Insurance company with an update on the billing issue with Lakeside Eye Care, I called my Insurance company and spoke to Care coordinator, XXXXX, requesting an update. Placing me on hold, she reached out to Lakeside Eye Care over phone. According to XXXXX, she was able to reach & got to speak with the front desk staff at Lakeside Eye Care. The front desk staff informed XXXXX that I could ignore the statement dated Nov 11 2022. Wonder what limits/prevents Lakeside Eye Care to respond to my email request for clarification, and let me know the same?!?! I hope to receive relevant documentation from Lakeside Eye Care clarifying to me on the statement from Lakeside Eye Care dated Nov 11 2022.
I am a long-time patient of Dr. Mirabal. I have always found the Dr and his technicians to be very polite and professional. I would give 5-stars for the Dr & his technicians. However, the indifferent/disappointing experience with the front desk/billing staff blew it away ...
Here is a summary ...
I had visited Lakeside Eye Care in mid-Aug 2022 to schedule an appointment, and provided the front desk staff with a copy of my Insurance coverage benefits. I was given a hand-written note with a list of test procedures, and associated costs, totaling $249.00.
On the day of service/appointment (Aug 29 2022), I did visit Lakeside Eye Care at the scheduled time, and underwent the tests/examination. The front desk staff provided me a receipt listing all procedures carried out on the day (Note that one of the procedures, listed in the hand-written note provided earlier, was found to be unnecessary, and hence not performed) for a total cost of $340.00 (before any 'adjustments' and/or my credit card payment of $89.00 made on the same day). On returning from Lakeside Eye Care, I noticed two charges, $109.00 each, from Lakeside Eye Care! When I reached Lakeside Eye Care in person, the staff at the front desk told me that they had charged only $89.00 once (and were not aware of the reason for the incorrect/duplicate charges)! I called the credit card issuer and reported the same, and they were kind enough to remove the incorrect/duplicate charges. For the records, I communicated the experience to Lakeside Eye Care, via email, including relevant screenshots. The following day (Aug 30 2022), I did notice the correct amount of $89.00 (as indicated in my receipt from Lakeside Eye Care) posted to my credit card. I still have not figured out as to how duplicate charges could have been posted to my account (when I had swiped my credit card only ONCE) and how a charge could be posted (as a new transaction) to my account the following day (when I had NOT visited Lakeside Eye Care)!
Fast forward to mid-Nov 2022 ...
I received a statement from Lakeside Eye Care, via postal mail, indicating a total cost of $448.18! I had emailed Lakeside Eye Care requesting clarification about the same on Nov 23 2022, and I await to hear back from them. Meanwhile, I have reached out to my Insurance provider, with all relevant documents, who are in the process of looking into it at this time. I am shocked to notice the amount (total cost before any/all adjustments/credits/discounts) to be varying between the hand-written note on the day of scheduling the appointment Vs the receipt from Lakeside Eye Care on the day of service Vs the statement from Lakeside Eye Care received by me...
Read moreI've been a Lakeside patient now for about 2 years. I initially went there because they offered a relatively new dry eye procedure (meibomian gland probing} that, after many years of serious difficulty, and despite many doctors' efforts, with my dry eye problems, seemed promising, but underutilized in this country. Moreover, because of the specialized training and skill it requires, they were the only practice in DFW that offered it.
I got the probing procedure done, and it provided significant relief. But just as importantly, Lakeside has proven to be an invaluable medical resource for my many decades of visual difficulties. Specifically, the cornea on one eye for several reasons including some past procedures by other doctors, is weakened and irregular, making stable vision corrections very difficult. Dr Mirabal, along with his staff, has been great to work with in every way, from scheduling to providing assistance with insurance and pharmaceutical/medical device issues to patiently providing information and advice about the challenging vision issues I've been dealing with for much of my life.
In short, Lakeside is one of the few medical practices I've ever enjoyed visiting. Their diagnostic equipment is first-rate. They know what they're doing, they always spend the time needed to thoroughly explain what's going on with my eyes (most recently, a corneal shingles infection), how they propose to treat problems, and what my expectations should be. And they are equally helpful if I need to call for advice between office visits. Simply put, they're thorough, experienced,...
Read moreVery disappointed with the service received from this office. I used them years ago when they had first opened and was very pleased unfortunately they are no longer concerned with good customer service or efficient in calling in prescriptions. The directions given for the medications provided were listed for the wrong eye so luckily I had sense enough to use the drops on both eyes instead of relying on their faulty directions. On the follow-up visit I questioned the directions given and they immediately shredded the document and would not let me have my original paperwork back that I had notated personal notes on for my personal use. They insisted a prescription was called into the pharmacy and when I called pharmacy they had no record and pharmacist gladly provided his name to verify no mistakes had been made. Also, the wait was extremely long and had to wait approximately 2 hours when I was promised we'd been seen immediately after their lunch break so would not be delayed. For the kind of money that is paid they should show some appreciation for the patient's time and be more careful with providing directions on placing meds in the proper eye and calling in prescriptions as promised. Not something you would expect for a specialist of this nature. Better service at a Eye Doc in the...
