Southland Shopping Center, as one would expect, has a number of stores and restaurants, ranging from the mediocre, the fast food regulars, to the outstanding. There are the usual fast food chains giants such as Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts and even McDonald's, which is not actually part of the shopping center, but it is right next door, just west of it. There's a Winn-Dixie; a Big Lots; a Sally's Beauty; animal grooming; a UPS package store; a barber shop, a coin op laundromat, a Beall's outlet store, even a bar. But, to me, what keeps me returning again and again, is what I consider one if the outstanding Thai restaurants around. It's called Thai 84 (because it's on State Road 84, a/k/a Marina Mile Blvd), and lunch offers the best bargain. For the price of your entree, which is reasonable, between $9 and $16, you can have all the daily soup special if the day AND all of the salad you want, boasting the BEST peanut dressing you will ever find. The chef specializes in all kinds of curry, from red to green to massaman, as well as pad Thai. My personal favorite is their duck massaman. The pieces of duck are wonderfully crispy, and rhe very peanutty massaman curry is also unbeatable. The staff (of 2) are friendly and efficient, as well as very knowledgable about the menu and specials. It is one if those inviting, local hole-in-the-wall type restaurants that are usually the best kept secrets. Monday thru Friday is usually crowded for peak lunch time, thinning out around 1-1:30 (open 11:30 to 3 for lunch). They are also open for dinner starting at 5, but everything is a la carte. They are closed on Sundays. And yes, I...

Bealls looks nice and has expanded their selection but hoping for a good clothing store where...
ย ย ย Read moreSouthland Shopping is and has been a work in progress for over a year. New facades , New signs. New paint and trim. And now work on new lighting on the "ceiling" of the wall k way. Some trees have been planted. Winn Diixie has been completely remodeled and it is now a truly pleasant place to shop. Store hours are till 11:00p.m. with one door closed after 8:00p.m. The whole interior has been upgraded and is truly a pleasant shopping experience! As for staff, they couldn't be nicer!!! Wells Fargo bank moved into the area. Most long time stores are still there. What this plaza lacks is "curb appeal".It needs more greenery, ๐ flowers., brightness. There is no truly inviting outdoor dining area. Nothing that makes you want to stroll through this strip mall....
