I recently stayed at Candlewood Inn & Suites, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Upon entering, the lobby was the only somewhat nice aspect of the hotel. However, once we moved past it, we were met with a strong smell of marijuana and a room that was far from clean. Our bathtub was rusty and dirty, making it clear that housekeeping had not thoroughly cleaned the space. Customer service was also disappointing. Mateo, at the front desk, was not as hospitable as one would expect after paying $150 for a night. He seemed short and inconvenienced when we asked basic questions about amenities like breakfast. Later, when we needed extra sheets after my 4-year-old son accidentally spilled water on his bed, he seemed just as indifferent. After changing the sheets ourselves, we discovered a blood stain on one of the beds, which made us feel like the room had been only halfway cleaned. The following morning (3/11/25), I went to drop off my luggage in my van, and as I opened the door, a janitor looked past me into my room, making me feel uncomfortable and as if I was being watched. He didn’t respond when I greeted him, which made the interaction even more awkward. When I re-entered the lobby, he was mopping near the front desk and again ignored my “good morning.” The woman at the front desk did respond, but her tone was barely audible, adding to the overall unwelcoming atmosphere. A few positives: • The bed was comfortable, and the shower pressure was decent. • There was a self-service kiosk where we bought bottled water, which made checkout smooth. However, the prices were high—Smart Water was $9, and a smaller Dasani was $4.50. • The location is convenient, only a 10-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale Airport, so I’d rate that a 3 out of 5. I truly dislike leaving negative reviews, but this hotel was nowhere near worth the $150 per night we paid. Based on the photos, I expected a much better experience, but in reality, this should be a $75-$80 hotel at best. While I understand hotel prices fluctuate, it would have been well worth paying an extra $50 for a cleaner, friendlier, and overall better hotel. I would absolutely not recommend staying here.

Country Inn & Suites Ft Lauderdale FL 10-7-24 We had to evacuate because of Hurricane Milton. We booked one of the last rooms in this hotel. The Suite had a full-sized Refrigerator, Microwave, Two Burner Stove, Dishwasher, Kitchen Counter with Sink. Cupboards with lots of dishes, Pots and Pans and Utensils. Its enough for a lengthy stay. The room was large and very clean. The beds were very comfortable and loved the extra pillows on the beds. The TV was a large flat screen and worked very well. You could easily see it from anywhere in the room. They had a very large desk/table in the room under the TV. My advice to them is add extra 110 sockets around the top of desk area for more electronics and such to be plugged in. The HVAC worked well and kept our room cool. The Bathroom was large with tub and shower in it. Sink was large and very well laid out and all hot water was hot. The was a sperate closet for hanging your clothes up. The room at night had black out curtains. We did not hear any noise from our neighbors even though they were sold out. There was an elevator that worked every day while we stayed there. Halls were nicely laid out and all was carpeted and very clean. Lobby was large with a front desk and counters for Coffee, Ice, and some food you could buy there. There was an area in the Lobby they called Kiki’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar in which you could buy food and make it in the Microwave. The outside was very clean and neatly landscaped. Another thing I loved is they had doggy bags in the back area to aide in cleaning up after your dog as this is a pet friendly hotel. I took advantage of that as we had our baby Kiki dog with us. Special Thanks to Danielle and others for all the outstanding customer service, they went above and beyond. I give this place 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Follow me for more adventures on FB. I don't know what has happened to this place, because we had an awesome stay here before COVID, even while the hotel was being renovated. It's taken a bad turn in many areas, and it's unfortunate because the location for a pre-cruise stay is perfect and the last stay at this property was worth every penny. This time, there were a lot of non-guests just hanging around, freely walking in and out of the lobby, hogging up the gazebo for hours, hollering and being just general nuisances, smoking cigarettes all over the place. It felt like we were trying to get in and out of a dark, smelly alley in New York City or someplace like that. We felt very uncomfortable and almost like we were being harassed. Perhaps a security guard is needed to ensure guests are comfortable? I realize good help is hard to find/hire now after COVID, but the front desk staff has gone from welcoming and friendly, to passive, unhelpful and basically acting like they don't care whether you stay or not. Our check-in clerk wouldn't speak above a whisper and barely made eye contact. We reserved a bedroom suite and needed to use the pullout couch in the living room. There was no bedding or pillows in our room for the pullout couch, so on our way out for dinner, I asked her to ensure we had bedding for the fold out couch. She literally said to me: "oh you need sheets to sleep?" I then said "yes, and I will need pillows too" and she seriously told a paying, returning guest, "well there are more than enough pillows on the bed in the bedroom, you can take and use one of those". I did a little mental yoga to make sure I didn't snap at her and said "and what about a blanket?" and was literally asked "you want a blanket too? Can't you just turn your heat on if you get cold?" I then said "forget it, I'll go without and freeze instead of dealing with you." Later, after dinner, we returned to our room and found the water in the toilet and the sinks was running a dull-stained yellow tint. I had no choice but to return to the front desk and talk to her again. This was the last straw for me, because her response was "Are you sure it's yellow? No one else has complained, but I'll leave a note for the morning, because no one is here now to look into that tonight". We weren't even asked if we'd like to change rooms, she had no interest in making us happy, and it was at this point that we swore we will never, ever, return to this location. My last interaction with her was when I then asked about vending machines, or any selection of sodas, waters, etc. and she pointed to the "Candlewood Cupboard" which was almost completely bare, and told me I should just walk next door because that hotel has a better selection, or I can walk across the highway to the grocery store. I was done with her after that and had no further intentions of dealing with her again. The only other thing of note was that the fold out couch mattress was about 2 inches thin, unsleepable, and had burn marks and stains on it (room 515 - have someone go look if you don't believe me). I slept poorly, maybe 2 hours total all night between the discomfort and the noise of everyone slamming doors, yelling in the hallway and hollering outside in the parking lot. One good thing - the room was relatively clean and the cleaning staff in the morning was very friendly and greeted me with a nice good morning and smile on our way out of the room, which was nice. Different front desk clerk in the morning had the same sort of attitude as the...
