We just moved to the downtown area and always try to support the downtown shops. So we walked into Downtown Jewelry & Watch Company last year and noted that the owner had several watches (which my husband owns several) for sale that were worth several thousand dollars less than she was asking. But perhaps she expected to negotiate down, so we just thought that was odd and could really take advantage of some unwitting customer.
Fast forward to last weekend, my son was in town for 3 days on leave with the Marines. His watch needed a new battery, so we brought it in on a Friday and explained that he is leaving on Saturday. The gentleman says it will "be $20-$25 and ready on Saturday after 3pm." I note, he neglected to write either detail on the invoice sheet (price nor date), which I should have caught, but didn't. So we show up on Saturday at 4pm only to find the place is locked up, no sign on the door, no outgoing voicemail message, just a dark store that is supposed to be open -- according to their sign -- til 9pm. My son now has to leave back to where he's stationed without his watch. So I leave a message and no one calls back, ever. On Monday we called and were told to call back after 4p - like thank you for continuing to put the responsibility on your customers to ever get their items back. So anyway, we called back again and told there was a death in the family and the watch would be ready on Tuesday. Very sorry for their loss, so I go in to pick up the watch today and the guy tells me, that will be $35! I explain to him that he himself quoted me $20-25 and I start to explain that I now will also have to send the watch back to my son - and he interrupts me and says in a nasty tone "I don't need your story, here you owe me $25!"
I get that a death in the family is traumatic, hence I am providing 2 stars instead of none. But when one owns a business, one has to provide information to their customers regardless. They cannot keep people's valuables (they are a jewelry and watch store after all) hostage and then try to up-charge upon pick-up because they are vague on their intake documentation.
Sorry, based on the prices we see on their items and now their dicey business practices and rudeness, even in light of a crisis, I do not trust Downtown Jewelry & Watch Co. and we will bring all future...
Read moreNot happy. I saw a Groupon for this place so I figured I'd give them a try with fixing my watch. I'm giving them a 1 star review for the following reasons: they took longer than I was told (I wasn't waiting on any parts so not sure what took so long), when i called on the day it was supposed to be done they told me they couldn't find my watch and wasn't sure where it was and would look for it (that was unsettling), then when I called a couple days later to see what was going on with my watch they said it was ready (I got no call) so I had to leave work to go pick it up (not sure why a place like this is only open until 5... should at least be open until 5:30 for people that have day jobs) and when I got their the guy working was super creepy towards me and when I showed him my Groupon he insisted on taking my picture so he "can show the owner who gave him the Groupon..." ), then after I left I noticed my watch battery was dead (would have been nice of them to tell me since they were working on it) so I went to a different place to get the battery replaced (because I wasn't going to go back to them) and when I was at there they pointed out that the piece of my watch that I JUST GOT FIXED by Downtown Jewelry Conpany was MESSED UP AGAIN!! I am so annoyed! What a waste of money! The 2nd jeweler I took my watch to for a battery felt so bad for me that they are fixing it for me for free and in less than 24 hours (downtown jewelers took a week and they didn't even fix it properly)!! I never write negative reviews unless i truly believe it was deserved.... so I definitely do not recommend...
Read moreMy husband’s wedding ring—an irreplaceable piece with deep sentimental value—was completely destroyed by this shop. We originally purchased the ring from Into the Fire, a company known for its handcrafted, fire-treated finishes that create one-of-a-kind designs. The ring needed resizing, so we entrusted it to Downtown Jewelry, expecting professionalism and care. Instead, we endured over five weeks of frustration—multiple phone calls, in-person visits, and voicemails—just trying to get it back.
When we finally did, our hearts sank. The unique, artisan finish was completely erased. Downtown Jewelry wrongfully assumed the handcrafted patina was “dirt” and took it upon themselves to “clean” it, stripping away everything that made the ring special. Since then, it has oxidized even further, and what was once a stunning, meaningful symbol of our marriage is now a dull, lifeless shell of what it used to be.
My husband is devastated. That ring was more than just jewelry—it was a reminder of our vows and the life we’ve built together. And now, thanks to Downtown Jewelry’s negligence, it’s gone forever.
I rarely leave negative reviews as a small business owner myself, but I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Please, do not trust them with anything...
