Update - I went in at 1:45 on a Friday afternoon (today) 11 people in the checkout line (singular) going 1/3 of the way into the store aisles. I left my item on one of the 5 unmanned checkouts as I left. An early weekday afternoon and the line was that deep! I actually put forethought into timing the visit when I did because of previous experience with long lines and only 1 or 2 open registers...perhaps I should read my own reviews...
Clean and organized. Prices are VERY good and at their worst - still Fair - but what is your time worth?
Good selection but it us a barren wilderness if you collect sports cards, books or comic books. Very little or none on supplies, products, protection or storage solutions (well, they do sell books and bookshelves, but no serious book restoration items or individual protection).
Lots of fun stuff otherwise and I've discovered things to help me in other situations - like a needle to feed a Waistband through shorts and a strap through my girlfriends American Flag bikini just in time for summer. I was surprised I could not find any Patriotic Stationary or notepads with only a month to go before July 4th; though they have a well stocked area of store with almost everything else red-white or blue - just nothing to write a simple to-do list or thank you note on. Staff is awesome - certainly the folks who I've seen regularly past 3 years and I assume the newdies will get more knowledgeable too. Management knows every inch of store and will stop in their tracks to help a guest and vent friendly. There's a couple great ones who have helped me a couple times.
So why 3 Stars? Guess _
The Lines EVERY TIME, ANY DAY, ANY TIME OF DAY. YOU CANNOT GET OUT IF THE STORE! Iregularly spend more time I line than I do shopping. It is agony. So - now I go as I frequently as possible. I order online from other places even though it is less than 5 minutes from my house.
They've no respect for my time, so I just no longer go (probably costing this store conservatively $1500 In just my lost sales in the past 18 months). I cannot abide the absolute minimum number of cashiers (1) unless you ask them to open another lane. Which they do but I hate being the only one to ever ask. Multiply that by many other folks I'm sure.
I just went there again as I just needed some kraft stationary - spent more time in line that going to the car, to far end of store, and to register (looking at a few other things) than the line came again and it was not even lunchtime nor was store busy (which it often is)
Just count on the bare minimum registers open no matter how many people are working, and picture Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Burlington, Homegoods, Framingham Walmart, (all which I avoid unless absolutely necessary in this area) check-out wait times -ALL THE TIME, EVERY DAY AND TIME OF DAY. If you like being treated like cattle when trying to just get on to your next errand or home, or have nothing better to do with your day - you'll love this place because the rest of the store is ABOVE STANDARD.
I almost gave 4 stars because I love the fact they respect Sunday as a day for God, family, country and rest - especially for their employees which I greatly admire, especially in the retail world. Their lines over 50+ visits in 3 years - I know what I'm talking about with this sample size drop...
Read moreI have a love/hate with Hobby Lobby in general. I love the variety of craft supplies including yarn, embroidery supplies and fabric by the yard. I hate that the yarn is all their own brand. I hate the same thing about fabric selection. Nothing name brand. I hate the hymns that play as I am shopping as well as all of the religious items for sale and books. Get rid of the books at the register. Not a craft or hobby supply. I hate the fact that the person cutting fabric by the yard has no sewing knowledge and it is painful to watch him cut fabric with dull scissors that are not fabric scissors. (Not his fault) I hate that the poor cashier has to manually enter each price of each object and that I needed a manager to approve my Valentine fabric sale price. Then the manager had to be convinced by me the customer that it was on sale and that the price should have been $2.39, not $3.99. Because the cashier has to manually enter each price the waiting lines for shoppers can build up fast. Honestly, what business does not use bar codes to scan items. It makes inventory so much easier. I imagine certain employees have to walk around with clip boards figuring out what items need to be stocked up on. Antiquated system for such a huge chain where the CEO is worth over...
Read morePicture this: my friends and I were browsing through aisles of priceless 'Bless this Mess' wooden placards and "Don't Bother Me Im Gaming" metal signage, sharing a quiet chuckle over an exceptionally interesting piece of decor. You know, just your typical hobby store laughter. This hag stomped over to us, pointedly glared, and informed usâno, decreedâthat âNo Laughingâ was allowed in their sacred domain of craft supplies. Yes, you heard that right. We were violating the solemn, laughter-free atmosphere of Hobby Lobby. With how effortlessly she pulled off her "look of disapproval," one could assume that passing judgement toward the customer was a part of her extensive training for this important role. To the management: please consider implementing a new training module for your staffâperhaps one focusing on the concept of humor and its role in human interaction. Or at least invest in a âsense of humorâ course for your employees. It might help with the whole "smiling while working" thing. Until then, I will have to purchase my AI generated, 12x32, canvas paintings of various animals proclaiming their love for Jesus...
