This was a cool house to visit but KELLY who works there is horrible! She was SO rude! A complete B word! I wanted to buy some books from the gift shop. I walked in the house and she said "Why are you here? You can't come in this house without a tour guide." I said oh, I didn't know I had to book a tour. I asked if I could just look in the gift shop to buy some books. She let me in but stood over my shoulder the whole minute I was in there! I felt so uncomfortable! I was looking at some food items and she stood right behind me watching everything I picked up. I went over to the books, she followed and did the same thing! She then said "You need to leave if you aren't doing the tour." I said that I would do the tour and pulled out my wallet to pay. She yelled that they take payments after and that there is a tour currently going on and that I could jump in. (I am glad, I did because CHUCK the tour guide was SO friendly and knowledgeable. Chuck is an excellent tour guide!) I needed to use the bathroom since I had been driving for an hour. She let me use the bathroom but as I walked out I noticed my dad wasn't waiting for me. She told me she made him leave. Another couple joined our group about ten minutes after I did because she kicked them out of the house as well! I get there are a lot of nice antiques in the museum part of the house but did she really think we were going to steal?? Thats what it felt like!
The tour itself was interesting and Chuck knew a lot about the Lotz family but I felt like I was touring an antique shop.
I would recommend booking a tour, according to Kelly you can't just walk in. There is a groupon you can get online.
If a manager could get back to me I would appreciate it. Who is this Kelly chick and why is she so damn ignorant??? I ended up not buying anything because I didn't want to give this place my...
Β Β Β Read moreWe stopped at the Lotz House Museum this summer while on a road trip. Our kids (15, 14, 12) complain that we drag them to far too many boring historical sites, but all three of them enjoyed this tour, and they insisted that I should leave a review.
We visited on a Sunday morning in July. We waited for about ten minutes for a few more people to gather before the tour began, and we enjoyed browsing the gift shop and the small collection of artifacts (many of which were connected with interesting stories) while we waited.
Chuck, our high school history teacher turned tour guide, made history come alive with the quotes and personal details he shared that revealed individual people's experience of the Battle of Franklin. Our tour was about 75 minutes, and it left a lasting impression.
The 15-year-old said, "I thought it would be boring, but the guide was actually really interesting to listen to."
According to the 14-year-old, "That tour was cooler than most because it didn't overwhelm you with information, it told the story of one family's experience. Information isn't interesting, but story is."
And the 12-year-old insisted, "You need to leave a review to tell people that the guide was really funny."
Those who have trouble standing for long periods or climbing stairs would struggle on this tour, though there were a few seats available in the entryway where our tour began. If you can manage it, though, this tour was definitely worthwhile. Three generations give it...
Β Β Β Read more3 stars because We got stuck with Kelly. The history of the Lotz house and the house itself was great. Our experience not so much. From the beginning with just paying for our tickets she was smiley and bubbling but also passive aggressive in her tone and wording. We saw one price oone but she was telling us a different price. We had our children with us who are big into history and do so well at these types of events. We visit a lot of houses/museums and never had an issue. They asked her a few questions. It seemed to have been a bother to her. She was so passive aggressive it was almost unbearable. Even other adults on the tour couldnβt believe how she responded.
She told other people in the tour not to touch or lean on anything even against a solid wall (which we get) but yet she leaned on wall after wall as she talked. As an adult I asked her a question which I turn she gave a very passive aggressive and stupid answer to a question I didnβt ask. Had she listened and heard what I was asking, there would have been no need for her comments. If it was not for the βall sales final, we would have asked for a refund and left.β
She also kept putting her hands on my kids and touching them. So weird for never having met them.
We overheard the other tour going on and that gentleman was fantastic. He also chatted with us before and after and was so great!
If you go, I would ask for the make tour guide. Especially if you...
