My wife and I had the pleasure of attending Alabama Story, presented by the Pull-Tight Players, a talented community theater group here in Franklin. Written by Kenneth Jones and directed by Cindy Davis Massey, this production was outstanding.
The Pull-Tight Theater is an intimate venue where every seat offers a great view of the stage. They’ve recently upgraded their seating, and it’s now much more comfortable than before — a wonderful improvement that makes the experience even better.
The casting and direction for Alabama Story were excellent. I want to give special recognition to my friend, Donald Seitz, who delivered a remarkable performance playing multiple roles: Alabama State Representative Bobby Crone, a reporter from the Montgomery Advertiser, Herschel Webb, segregationist columnist Henry Branch, a radio announcer, and even a passerby. His versatility and energy brought each character vividly to life.
All of the actors and actresses gave excellent performances, but I’d also like to especially acknowledge Jennifer Bennett as librarian Emily Wheelock Reed, and Greg Allen Martin as Senator Higgins — both of whom gave memorable portrayals.
Beyond its artistry, Alabama Story is an ever-timely play, exploring themes of censorship, book banning, and racial tensions — issues from the 1950s that still echo in today. As Mark Twain said “history, doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.”
Overall, this was an outstanding production in every respect. If you have the chance to see Alabama Story at the Pull-Tight Theater, I highly...

Read moreI have season tickets for the first time this year and have thoroughly enjoyed the plays I have seen so far. It's a tiny venue, which makes the experience very personal, and most of the plays are comedies, which have been done so well that I have left still laughing as I got to the parking lot. This is some of the best community theater I have ever seen. Don't miss it, if you...
