Food was very quick and delicious. The wait time wasn’t bad for a Saturday evening in downtown Franklin. Not many options on the menu but from what we got, it was all very good and pleasantly surprised us. We ordered:
fried green tomatoes: could’ve done without the weird bed of iceberg lettuce (seems very 90’s and doesn’t do much for the presentation) and a side of more sauce but otherwise perfectly cooked and came out very quickly.
a half dozen oysters: I like them fresh on the half shell, but to my surprise were cheesy goodness! My wife like them a lot and is not a big fan of oysters, which says a lot to me.
cup of Gumbo: this was one of my favorite plates. Very well balanced, like enough you don’t feel stuffed, but hearty enough to be perfect for a cold day. Solid roux, perfectly cooked veggies. Can’t complain!
the Mahi Mahi with cheesy grits and broccoli: pretty good job on cooking the fillet except for the thinner part, but as to be expected. Broccoli was perfect and seasoned well. Cheesy grits stole the show. Perfectly cooked, not too cheesy, and tied in perfectly with the other sides.
We also got a class of Pinot Grigio (the cheapest one) and a Bloody Mary with some hot sauce. Both very good however I with the Bloody Mary had more pickled things (personal preference). All in all very pleased and look forward...
Read moreThere is a nearby city parking garage that is free rather than the surface pay lots as a heads up. We were able to walk right in and be seated. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his shrimp in the bag with Cajun butter. My son and I ordered an off menu appetizer of pimento cheese spread with crackers. I dipped the bread that came with the shrimp into the Cajun butter and then slathered the pimento cheese and it was heavenly and it should be on their menu. For mains, husband got the gumbo which was dark and tasty with a bit of spice but he added more heat to his. I had the shrimp and grits in a wine sauce. The sauce was a bit surprising and it was almost vinegarish but I liked it and the rest of the meal. As someone else posted, it was thin sauce, almost like a broth. The grits aren't a giant bowl with some sauce more like some grits with lots of sauce. I really liked it. The son got the dirty bird which is pulled chicken with a fried egg topped with slaw. The bread was white bread - as the juices soaked into it, the bread kind of fell apart. So maybe heartier bread? He ended up taking the bread off and removing the slaw. The banana pudding was kind of a disappointment. I felt like the pudding base was a mix to which they added bourbon caramel to it. It was...
Read moreWe visited this past Saturday for lunch for the first time. We live in Spring Hill and normally frequent this location and loved it so while we were in the area we thought we would try it out.
Was fairly busy but nothing crazy. We were seated in the very back basically away from everybody and we believed it was because we had our one year old with us. Not a big deal but still a little odd.
While the food was great, our service from our waiter was terrible. Was not very personable and would seem frustrated whenever we requested something. When it came time for the check, the waiter asked if we were finished with our plates. While the waiter proceeded to pick up my wife’s plate, my wife had asked if us if we still wanted any fries on her plate, to which the waiter drops the plate back down and leaves without saying anything. Very unprofessional and had no patience with us.
Lastly, we asked for a to go cup for our tea which had about half of it left. He brings back a cup with no lid or straw and doesn’t offer to pour her anymore.
I would hope this is just the one waiter who was just having an off day and didn’t want to be there but still leaves a bad taste in your mouth and we...
