Arlan's Market — Attraction in Galveston

A little old and worn down but not ghetto. It's a little hidden gem!!! Decent cashiers, no self check out, no bs. Good prices and old school store—one of the OGs. I want it to be open another decade or two at least. Way longer if possible!! Great location for the east end of the Island. Great grocery store and I like that it is focused on that, doesn't try to do anything extra raising costs. This place doesn't have police showin' up like Walmart. It's a chill little store and giving people some jobs, my good friend worked here for 7-8 years and few people from Walmart changed jobs here to get away from the chaos. They say it's a little bit less money because it's a smaller store but they say it's kinda worth it because it's less stressful and the work is more manageable—def way more peaceful. Lots of people come and shop here but It's usually quiet. You may encounter a loiterer or somebody asking for money here and there but def not the Walmart crazies lol, and that's a plus for me, but the meat prices are a bigger plus. I like this store as a matter of convenience, but will be shopping elsewhere. Your cashiers are SO SO RUDE. Last week I had a cashier that would not even say hello, how's your day, did you find everything okay, did not speak one word to me the entire transaction until it was time for me to pay, and then did not even say have a nice day or goodbye. Today I had a cashier that wouldn't or couldn't separate an order for me. I shop for my elderly neighbor and return with her receipt. I told her THREE TIMES I needed the orders rang separately.i had them separated on the belt. She got to the end of the first order and I told her AGAIN this next batch is separate. She continues to ring my items in with the other order. I told her AGAIN I needed them separated, and her response was "well I put them in separate bags". I was furious and told her AGAIN to split the order and she told me it was too late cuz she already rang it up. SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO MOCK ME IN SPANISH TO HER CO WORKER. As many mention, the price is much higher than a very large store. But that is also a part of it's appeal. Most of the produce there are much fresher than other stores, and they still have a wide or wider variety than much larger stores. This is not purely a grocery store, and another reviewer hit the nail on the head of it feeling like a full-service convenience store as they have isles and sections dedicated to home supplies that wouldn't initially expect. We love the different variety of Spanish brands they carry that you wouldn't be able to find at a much larger store, and we have found some real tasty treats that we love thanks to that. There are a couple extremely friendly and outgoing workers, but the rest take a much more 'average' approach. Besides the one worker apparently never seeing nip**es through a shirt before and needlessly staring, I would suggest stopping by here to supplement smaller needs throughout the week/month that you don't want to travel across island to a...
