My wife and I headed down to Galveston Island for the weekend, staying at The Tremont House in the Strand District. For an afternoon activity, we went to lunch at Cajun Greek and then headed to Stewart Beach. Stewart Beach is a large public beach located where I-45 meets the water. Parking was $12, and the lot is conveniently close to the beach, just steps from the water. The first couple of rows on the beach are reserved for chairs and umbrellas, which you can rent for $45 for the day. This rental allows you to come and go as you please. If you bring your own gear, you can set up behind these reserved rows. The water was particularly rough while we were there, and it was a red flag day. The water here is brown, which many visitors mistakenly think is due to pollution. In reality, it’s brown because the Mississippi River dumps silt into the Gulf, keeping the water stirred up. While we prefer the beaches along the west end of the island, Stewart Beach is great for people-watching and is conveniently located on the east end of the island, near restaurants, the pier, and the Strand. Despite the rough water, we had a great time enjoying the atmosphere and easy access to nearby attractions.

Is better than Galveston Beach, that is for sure. Beach is pretty clean, trash cans are placed every 6-10 feet. To park they charge $15, credit or cash, then if you want you can rent chairs and umbrellas, you'll have 2 chair and umbrella for $35 until 5 pm. This is optional and you don't have to carry them as they are already placed near the shore. They have other options for renting depending on what you need, more chairs, just umbrella... They even rent floats. The place has showers and bathrooms and also a place to eat. Very good place for visiting the beach in texas. Not music unless you bring your own. It is prohibited to drink alcoholic beverages here. In general I liked the place. Will be visiting soon again.

They need to check their power tripping employees and make them take anti-racism classes. Otherwise the amenities are amazing.

There is a fee to park from Monday-Thursday $12 and Friday-Sunday $15. You will be parking on sand.

This beach have several amenities ranging from volleyball courts, playground, showers, restrooms, and designated changing areas. They are currently renovating the building itself but have set up showers outside, porta-potty and changing areas outside. They also offer umbrella seats near the beach front. They also have a life guard on duty at certain times. The beach is a little trashy but that’s bc people don’t pick up after themselves.

Anyways onto the altercation I witnessed. A family sits at the rental umbrella chair and didn’t pay. The umbrella guy (we’ll call him Bob bc he refused to give his name) comes up and asks what they’re doing and demands payment. The family stated they didn’t know there was a fee and hands Bob cash to pay for the umbrella. Bob POCKETS the money, tells the family they need to move away and takes the umbrella with them. Bob then calls police over to remove the family from the area.

NOW the thing is, earlier that morning the same thing happened where a group of 20-year olds sat at the same rental umbrella chair and didn’t pay. When Bob came up to them, he explained nicely that they weren’t allowed to leave and use the stuff. The group left peacefully.

The only difference between how the situations were handled bc of their races (I’m 99% sure). You guessed it the family was POC and the group of 20-year...
