The Garibaldi Maritime Museum was our first stop in a recent trip to Garibaldi, and we couldn't have started our trip more pleasantly. Though the museum appears small on the outside, it offers plenty to see and learn about.
For a mere $3 per adult, my partner and I spent around 4 hours wandering around, reading, watching, looking at, and generally absorbing all of the exhibits. We finished up by getting a bunch of unique gifts in the giftshop.
The museum tells the story of the history of Garibaldi and provides a ton of information about ships, fishing, and more. It also tells the story of Captain Robert Grey, the first American to visit the West Coast and the Columbia River. There is a ton of interesting information about 1800s sailing ships, including detailed info about navigation methods, living quarters, attire, and so much more. There's so much here I felt like I was ripping them off by paying only a $3 entry fee.
Finally, the woman who greeted us when we came in was exceptionally nice. She was the only person working that day and was very friendly and talkative. She also noticed that I am visually impaired and (politely) asked what the museum could do to improve its accessibility for future visitors. It was a conversation I was glad to have with her.

Read moreThis is a GREAT little museum!! It's called the Garibaldi "Maritime" museum, but there is MUCH more to see and learn about than just "maritime" history. For a minimal entrance fee there is enough to keep one occupied for several hours. I would definitely recommend viewing the video history of Tillamook County and the Port of Garibaldi which is extremely well done and chock full of interesting history and historical photos, videos, and first-person accounts of the Tillamook Bay area.
On the second floor there is a nice display room telling of the story of Captain Robert Gray, the first European explorer of the Columbia River and the surrounding areas of northern Oregon. There is another nice section detailing the life of the Pacific Northwest Native Americans, which includes some displays of Indian artifacts and handcrafts. Finally, the museum has a small gift shop and a rather large section of books for sale on a plethora of subjects having to do with Oregon, Tillamook, and various other subjects. Five stars and "two thumbs up" to this gem in...
Read moreI stopped by the museum to visit the great exhibits on the early exploration of the Columbia River and the Pacific Coast by Captain Robert Gray.
It was nice to see the history on the early days of Garibaldi with exhibits on logging, fishing, and the early Coast Guard Station.
The Robert Gray exhibits offers some great exhibits on his two voyages that explored and claimed the Columbia River for the United States.
The other exhibits include a historical firearms display, the history of coastal tribes that traded furs with Captain Gray, a nice Japanese Float display, and carved pieces of bone or ivory Scrimshaw.
Located on Highway 101 near Second Street in Garibaldi, a short distance from the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad train depot.
A nice museum to stop by and learn the history of the early days of Garibaldi and the journeys of Captain Robert Gray as he explored...
