I had a pacemaker implant performed exactly 4 weeks ago by Dr. Kaplan. Dr. Patel, the cardiologist I started with was obviously not concerned about my symptomatic condition in Sept and Oct but indicated that he would “allow” me to see Dr. Kaplan, the EP. Oddly enough, I had so little confidence in Patel after my first meeting that I made my own Appt with Kaplan, who very quickly told me I had a great heart but that my sinus node was not functioning properly, as my resting heart rate was below 40 all day long. I was scheduled for my “wound care” appt 1 week later with again, Dr. Patel vs Dr Kaplan who performed the surgery. I waited in the waiting room for over one hour and finally asked if someone was going to see me as no one was in the waiting room but myself for a while. My daughter from NYC was with me and ended up getting an Uber to the airport as we were waiting so long and I could not bring her to the airport. I was seen by someone who never identified herself and did not know what I was there for. Fast forward to 12/12/24 for my appt with again - Dr Patel instead of Dr Kaplan who was my surgeon. After waiting for 4 weeks to have a conversation regarding my last 4 weeks and the pacemaker as well as clearance to increase activities, instead, Dr Patel started talking about my heart murmur. After a few minutes of discussion that made no sense to me, I told Dr Patel that I wanted to talk about my pacemaker. It was obvious that he had bonuses what I was referring to. I showed him my scar, and his response, • oh that looks good.” I am a very athletic adult and I wanted to know if it was safe to resume my normal activities of running, cycling, pickleball and hiking. It was so obvious (Although he was very nice this time and asked many non-health related questions, that he had no idea why I was there. Needless to say, he cleared me to resume my normal activities knowing I had not met with Dr Kaplan nor did he review my pacemaker reports. I received a copy of the today appt notes when I returned home. Sure enough, the reason for my visit was noted as “ Heart murmur.” I have no confidence that I received dependable information today and will pursue this...
Read moreWould rate this place a 0 if I could. My first appointment was disappointing and I shouldn't have given them another chance. Dr. Banna walked into the room and was about to give me the incorrect results from the EKG that was just done. He asked how I was feeling because it came back that I was experiencing tachycardia. I said I felt fine, no heart racing. He then asked for my name and birthday and he said that he ended up with the wrong EKG in his hands. He told me multiple times to "speak in human terms" because I was telling him what my OB diagnosed me with. Okay, whatever. He said my heart sounds perfect, but let's do an echo and wear a heart monitor just in case. Episodes of syncope while 7 months pregnant is something I really needed to get to the bottom of. I go to the front desk and speak to Julia to schedule. She pulls up my account and that's when I ask her how much the echo and monitoring will cost. After clicking on her computer a couple times she said, oh, with your insurance, looks like it'll just be the copay of $50. Okay, great. Get the monitor on and hooked up the next week. I passed out a couple of times. The monitor company called to ask if I was okay and that they'd contact my doctor. Nurse called the next day to say that Dr. Banna said that my heart is fine and he thinks I'm either having mini seizures or rapid drops in BP and to follow up with my OB with that info. To keep the monitor on and they will call me in a week with the rest of the results. After that phone call, I took off the monitor and cancelled the echo (no point if he thinks my heart is fine). It has been a month later and I have yet to hear the full result of monitor AND I got a bill for over $800 for the monitor that does NOT show the $50 I left for a copay. Better yet, my OB got the records from them and no where in his notes does it say that I passed out during the monitoring or that he recommended that my episodes of syncope could be from seizures or drops of BP. Needless to say, I am incredibly disappointed in the service I received and warn everyone who thinks about using them...
Read moreThis has to be the worst medical organization in AZ!! The Docs are great, the rest of the organization either is just plain lackadaisical at best or truly completely incompetent. I schedule appointment way ahead of time so that I can make sure we have coverage at my work. The staff didn't call in for insurance approval until 2 days before my appointment. So at the last moment it is declined by insurance and I have to be rescheduled for another month out. I then had to call the insurance company to get them to approve of the test; the office should be doing this, but they didn't give the insurance company all the information. In the meantime, I am losing lots of sleep over irregular heart beats and a 2nd degree heart block. Next I asked them to change my BP med, because the one I was on was causing problems. We agreed on a med (I'm a nurse with cardiac experience) but they didn't call it in for 2 weeks!!! I called them and asked for an administrator and 2 days later, someone calls me. I complained about the service I was getting and he told me their electronic prescription process had an issue for a week. Where I work, if we have a problem like that we pick up the phone and call the pharmacy within 24 hours. So finally they call in the med two days before I leave for Ecuador!!! Going out of country on a new med; not knowing how it is going to react, not a good idea, but we survived. I then get a call from the head administrator from Phoenix Heart; she let a message asking me to call her to see if the medication issue was resolved. She included her extension number. I called SIX times within a week with no answer and no way to leave a message. If I treated my patients the Phoenix Heart way, I WOULD BE FIRED!!! I am done with them! If your shopping for a cardiologist, STAY AWAY FROM...
