Bell Rd. location, smaller place than I thought it would be (about 20 tables). We were one of seven tables (5 tables by the time we ordered). We were seated within 5 min of walking in by a young man with long greasy hair (appearance more suitable for a dish washer than front of the house) and given 5 tattered menus (thought this place was recently opened since website says location now open) covered in dry food. The waiter (Matthew, very nice man that did his job well) came by about 7 minutes later for the drink order.
Ordered:
Fried mozzarella. Was one huge triangle shape mozzarella. My 8 year old loved it, 13 year old thought it was just o.k., I thought it was good with room to be better.
Wings. Small but good, would rate up there with Barro's wings.
Dinner salad. Big enough for two, was good and fresh.
Kid pasta with meatball. He loved it, first time I have been able to get him to eat a meatball.
Vermi Arrabbiata. Good size portion, verry flavorful.
Fettuccine Alfredo. Apparently, it was too cheesy, according to the picky teen. Looked good to me. Huge portion.
Lasagna. Giant portion, enough for two. Olive Garden can not compete. Very cheesy.
Pescatore. Great flavor, big portion. Wish they gave some more napkins since I had to dig claims and muscles out of the shells and would have been nice to get a separate plate/ bowl/ bucket to put the empty shells into when I was done with them. Mystery fish was o.k. just need to watch out for the crunches (I hope it was bone).
Only one men's toilet and one women's toilet for customers and employees, so if someone is in there before you, you may have a long wait.
Overall, the total for 2 kids & 3 adults was $127.78 if paying cash or $132.26 if paying with a card. (First time I have seen pricing like that outside of a mom&pop gas station). The place has room to improve and we look forward to visiting again in the...
Read moreWent for dinner for the first time at "Times Square" at 57th and Bell. It made a definite, first-time, impression on me... ALL BAD!!
My first choice was the "Pollo Parmigiano," or the chicken parm dinner. The spaghetti was great and the sauce was tasty, but the chicken was chewy and somewhat fibrous, almost sinewy. It was like biting into connective muscle tissue of a wild game animal.
I searched for reasons why chicken gets chewy or fibrous. The two most common reasons are: 1) overcooking the chicken or 2) undercooking the chicken.
Overcooked chicken occurs when chicken is cooked for too long, especially at high temperatures, which causes the protein fibers to become elastic and dry, resulting in a chewy texture. Undercooked chicken occurs when chicken isn't cooked to a safe internal temperature (165°F or 74°C), thus, it can be tough and chewy.
I'm not saying either of these explanations was the reason why my chicken turned out the way it did, but I never bit into chicken that fought back.
My girlfriend ordered "Pollo Marconi," which was the eggplant and chicken dinner. I tasted just the chicken portion of her meal and it was moist, fluffy, soft and thoroughly enjoyable to chew.
I told the server of my displeasure and she took the food away. She asked me if I wanted something else, so I decided to play it safe. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs.
My second choice came with a different set of issues. Again, the spaghetti was great and the sauce was tasty, but the meatballs had no substance. They were mushy, tasteless and were in the the consistency of soft, canned dog food. Growing up in Brooklyn, I was used to firm, thick meatballs and what I got was the complete opposite.
For me, as far as I'm concerned, this review closes the book on "Times Square" once...
Read moreWe live less than a 3 min car ride from this location. When we first moved here 8 months ago, we ordered dinner to go. The food was wonderful, a little pricey but really good. Since then we have ordered take out 2 other times, and it’s been horrible. Once for dinner to go, I called in the order and was told it would be 20 mins. I stopped at another store near by and was there 25 mins after I had placed the order. I paid the cashier and sat and waited, they were a little busy, 3 couples who where waiting when I arrived had been sat, 2 other to go orders came in and picked up their food. The cashier who took my money kept looking at me and smiling, I looked and realized I had been sitting there for 30 mins, 55mins after I placed the order. I ask the girl up front about my food, she looked at me and said what food?? She looked up my order and said to wait and walked off. She came back 25 mins later with my food..when I asked why it took so long she said sorry we were busy..Really??.. I got home only to find the food was the wrong order completely and so cold I had to reheat every except the bread that was hard as a rock. I spent 65.00 for food we couldn’t eat..Then I ordered breakfast to go this morning. Once more 2 of the 3 orders where the wrong food, toast was so soggy we threw it away. The gravy was like tasteless paste.. all for 40.00. We won’t be ordering from...
