7-26-15 This is a very nice trail with views of Golden and Denver. It is a steady uphill and pretty rocky, but not too steep. I made it a little past the crossing of the paved road in about an hour. It was Sunday afternoon. I saw four hikers and one uphill mountain biker. So it wasn't busy. You are passing by homes across the gully on the left until you reach the paved road. There were also parking spaces at the junction with the paved road if you want to start from there. The trail is well marked with signs naming the trail at the junction with a dirt road and at...

Yikes, black ice on the trail in 2-3 switchbacks as of 2/6/21 - I don't recommend riding when its been snowy. Much better spring and fall - summer can be brutally hot. Otherwise always a great training/technical uphill ride. String together during better weather with Apex and loop back down Heritage Pkwy. Riding up, Intermediate to advanced skills needed with a high level of fitness for the 2500' of climbing over about 3 miles. Riding down from the top of lookout is just...

I hiked this trail today from the parking lot by Hwy 6 all the way to Lookout Mountain Nature Center. If facing the mountain, it starts on the right side of the lot. Using my Garmin GPS watch, the trail is 3.8mi one way not 2.5mi as posted on City of Golden website. There is very little shade for the first 1.5-2mi so bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Saw a handful of bikers but you can hear them coming. Nice workout and scenery...

The trailhead is easy to miss. It is simply a gravel space beside the road. Once on the trail, it is beautiful all the way to the overlook at the top. It's narrow and popular among bikers, but everyone is friendly. The footing is rough in some places (very rocky), but a lot of it was runnable (if you can deal with the steep elevation changes).

This trail was great to hike up. Be cautioned that this is an amazing mountain biking trail so you will more than likely encounter riders. 2.7ish miles of sustained elevation gain so be prepared for a little climb. Totally worth it through when you get to the top. There is a parking lot at the top of you just want to see the view.

Lovely and accessible area. Even on a beautiful Saturday it wasn't crazy busy. We had to turn around before the top because there was still a good amount of snow on the trail. My five year old had a blast the whole time. My 3 year old struggled with the incline and needed some help but loved the jaunt down the mountain.
