We had an outing here, and it was nice, but it wasn't great. I would suggest not spending the money on a "romantic" dinner. The food was cold because it caters in. The catering of the food wasn't worth the money. If you want Cafe Italia, go there first. For starters, if you advertise a 5-star experience, you better be ready to bring it and don't make people feel they're ordering takeout. The food presentation could have been better; Capitan Dave pulled the food from the tin foil container before us. We booked for four couples, and it was extremely tight. The boat is too small for eight people up on the deck. I recommend no more than six people. The experience on the deck and sailing at Grapevine Lake was worth the price of admission. So, if you're going to try it, I would do the sailing only. I also caution you about the tip. He only takes cash and automatically quotes your price with a 20% gratuity. Interestingly, he only takes cash and dares to add the gratuity, which is optional based on service and experience. That was our experience in a nutshell. Recommendation for Captain Dave, the history and story were great, and you should consider having that conversation in a cooler environment and not under 100 degrees. Captain Dave provided a perfectly magical birthday evening! Admid Covid-19 concerns, my boyfriend wanted to find an activity for us to celebrate my birthday safely, while still being memorable. Black Watch Sailing Charters couldn’t have been better for the occasion! We selected meals prior to the cruise, were given detailed history about the boat itself, and enjoyed dessert and wine on the deck as we watched the sunset on Lake Grapevine. We also were lucky that it was almost a full moon and on the clear night, as we sailed back to the slip - we got to watch the moon rise as well.

I don’t even know where to begin. Capt. Dave is one of the most genuine and personable people you may ever come to know. Dave, his wife, and his co-caption (Lloyd) go above and beyond to make the evening all about you. My husband and I booked a sunset sailboat dinner to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, and the BBQ was spectacular! The sailboat is a beauty, inside and out. And the history behind the boat is pretty neat! I would recommend Black Watch Sailing Charters to anyone and everyone I know.
