The Grass Valley Grocery Outlet is really a unique store, reflecting accurately the unusual social dynamics of the town. Recently expanded and upgraded by new owners, the days when they might not have milk or eggs are long gone. As long as you are brand-flexible you can find what you need.
Included in all the areas of the store are so many organic and healthy brands, they could call themselves health food outlet! But lots of standard brands as well.
I don't love the produce section... sometimes the quality can be a little on the tired side...but when it's good, it's very good. Today they had great big tubs of delicious seedless grapes for 1.99
It is a fabulous place for crackers and chips. Better quality and lower prices! In the dairy case, today I got 2lb blocks of cheese for $4! The coffee that they regularly carry isn't gourmet but it's ok, and a 2 lb bag is $10.
My next always stop is the eggs fridge. Just great prices for free range and often organic eggs.
Chocolate...there's almost always some European brand available. Today it was Green & Black's 70% for 99¢.
Amazing selection of beer and wine and a growing selection of spirits. Plus an impressive selection of cider, but weirdly a lot of the cider is in the crackers aisle?
My last stop is the cheese counter. The cheeses at the front counter are reason enough to shop here. As good as you can find (except locally made of course), and very competitive prices.
Checkout can be something of an ordeal. The staff is cheerful and willing. But sometimes a little inept...so keep an eye on your breakables/crushables!
Why 4 stars not 5? When the ownership changed, all the long term staff turned over. I get it. They wanted their own people I suppose. But still. It...
Read moreThis grocery store is important to many families in our area. Groceries cheaper. What's not to like? This store is run very well. The owners try hard to run a quality store, within their constraints. This is not a place to go for exact brands or specific items. More like a thrift store, where one sees what is there, first. Clean, well stocked and friendly. Produce department is large and has most of what you would expect. The wine and beer section is interesting. The cheese section is my favorite, often finding treasures there. Stock rotates and one never knows exactly what will be available. Be careful to identify products before taking them home. Occasionally, products are a little different than one would expect. Just makes it fun! Grass Valley Grocery Outlet is a good first stop to fill your grocery list. Especially if money is tight. Or if you just enjoy getting something a...
Read moreThe staff at this store are horrible...they ignore you if you ask for help, then if you force them to listen they are completely rude and unhelpful, often talking about customers behind their backs when they walk away frustrated by the lack of customer service. This store sells spoiled meat, dairy and produce and then refuses to accept returns when called on their unsanitary practices! I've personally witnessed staff dropping produce on the floor and then picking it up and putting it back on the shelf for someone to buy. They allow dogs to walk through the store and urinate and defecate on the floors while staff walk by and leave the mess for customers to walk through, so that means unsuspecting people are buying fruit and vegetables that have been dropped in years of layers of excrement-laden footprints. 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND SHOPPING...
