This is the most fantastical & reality busting establishment you’ll ever walk into. WHY? Because it’s a fantasy to think you could afford the object of your desire and to see that you can is mind blowing. It’s like walking into a dream that can come true!! I don’t think the particular piece I found ever felt quite comfortable where it was. It was surrounded by antiquity… Great deities of Asian culture, functional pieces of furniture that have stood the test of time. If my memory serves me correctly, I met this object of art many years ago before the pandemic of 2020 and I couldn’t even imagine ever being able to afford such a beautiful thing.. How did this incredible thing be overlooked for 9 years? Bill the proprietor told me it had been moved around a lot but always passed by. I think it was in the wrong kind of place. It was a new modern piece that I think felt like an outcast amongst its ancient peers. When I met it again, I was astonished to see the price had been slashed to almost nothing. The price dishonored it. I was mixed with both joy for my good fortune to be able to acquire it and sadness for the proprietor and the artisan, who spent 100s of hours painstakingly putting this piece together. It will now have a proper place of honor in my home and never be ignored or looked over again! AsiaBarong Gallery transports you to a different place & time and for me, it fulfilled a fantasy of owning a...
Read moreI met Bill in NYC at Javitz in 2001 when we were young guys. I have not been back to see him since 2006 and do miss him. Each year I go to Maine, but never seem to get to visit Bill enroute. This is simply an amazing place to visit, learn, shop and spend a few days. I live in Asia part of the year and visiting Barong always makes me feel at home. From a backpack and a few hundred bucks and a dream to explore, Bill created the only place in America where you can visit Asia without 20 hour plane rides, and everyone speaks English. Unique? Eccentric? Exciting? Amazing? I can never decide which comes first? Not sure if Ned is still there? The bookkeeper Elaine rode a Harley to work. OK, I will visit in 2022 for sure, only if Biden reduces the fuel cost and does not do another Covid lockdown! If I wear a mask again, it will be one from my collection...

Could’ve spent hours just looking at everything. Many different Asian cultural items. Musical instruments to statues and icons and paintings and clothing. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They can tell you about every item in detail. Bronze. Stone. Wood. Gems. Ancient and new. They are open only a few days a week right now. We went back to get some more items I liked but they weren’t open again until next weekend and we will be gone. ...
