Does Not live up to expected quality as a Marriott. The service is mediocre to poor and the breakfast is extremely mediocre. For instance, i came down to breakfast at 6:40 am, just forty minutes after it opened. The only hot main dish was scrambled eggs and they were already completely out of it! the first desk person lied to me and said the cook was late! The manager showed up after awhile and there were now eggs but they were now out of bacon. He said that a big group had come in at six am and eaten all their food! i never heard of such a lame excuse for a large size hotel to run out of food just 35 minutes after they opened! And this was during peak leaf season!!!Also, the coffee was awful— extremely weak even though labeled bold. And they did not serve whole milk. And the orange juice was the crummiest variety you could buy. The scrambled eggs were fine once they arrived but many local hotels serve individually made egg breakfasts in a pan while you request other additions and they do not do that. Just the most basic eggs in a platter every day i was there. As for the pool, it is very nice and clean but it is pretty cold —definitely colder than several other local indoor pools. Obviously too cheap to heat it to the satisfaction of most of their guests. No one else used the pool when myself and and my traveling companion used the pool for whatever reason. Finally, when we checked in, I noticed that the nice outdoor chairs that were just outside the breakfast room that had been there previously in the summer were now gone. The manager said that they had been put away because it was too late in the season. However it was 70° for the few days that I was there with my friend and it was beautiful outside and it would’ve been great to have had our breakfast outdoors like we had had in the past. I mentioned this to the manager and he was completely indifferent saying only again that it was past season. All they would’ve had to do was take a few wooden chairs and perhaps a table and take it back outside again for the gas but it showed no interest in doing so whatsoever . Absolutely not service minded in any respect. Overall, I will never return to this hotel. It is decided play mediocre and they skimp...
Read moreWhere to start. Let's start with the biggest issue. In my line of work, there very often comes the need to check out early to scoot off to the next issue at hand. I have checked out early at many Marriott hotels over there years (at least 30-50 times in the past 5 years) and it has never been an issue. The individual locations have been understanding. However, this specific location (Fairfield Inn & Suites Great Barrington) has a policy that they charge an extra night for early check out and they stick to that policy, as made clear by the manager of the night, Steve Curley. I know many Marriott's have this policy but waive the fee. The manager at this specific location was unwilling to do so.
Be warned that corporate Marriott cannot help you with getting an early departure fee waived when it is this specific location's policy to charge the fee. I called Marriott and they could not help and I have been Titanium Elite for 5 years. So don't think your status will help you either. I doubt being Ambassador will help either.
Now, let's talk location. The location leaves much to be desired. There's nothing in this area worth talking about. So if you're looking for a nice destination, look elsewhere.
As for the hotel itself, it seems the room I was in was recently remodeled (at least the bathroom was) but overall it's still your average run of the mill Fairfield. Nothing special.
That's it. If you're absolutely sure about the end date of your stay this hotel is an OK place to stay. If you have job or otherwise specific lifestyle that could lead you to depart earlier than the end date you booked, I ABSOLUTELY do not recommend this location as they are...
Read moreHotel staff entered the room after they saw my husband leave the room and the DND sign was still on our door. It was 9:30 a.m., well before check-out.
We stayed for just one night. Check-out time was 11:00 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. my husband took the luggage out to the car, while I was in the bathroom. The "do not disturb" sign was on our door from the night before. About 5 minutes after my husband left, I heard the door open, no one said anything, a minute or 2 went by, then the door closed. I ran out of the bathroom and opened the door and saw a male cleaning staff standing with the housecleaning cart outside my door. I asked what are you doing, why did you come in, I showed the "DND" sign to him. His responses were "It's OK, no problem, yes". It seemed as if he did not understand English. When I showed him the DND sign and said, this means do not in the room, he smiled and said yes and nodded his head. At the very least, even if you do not understand English, the staff should be trained that the DND sign means, do NOT go in the room. I immediately went to the front desk and the clerk working apologized profusely. What is the point of the DND signs? We had 1 -1/2 hours before official check-out. We did not alert anyone that we needed anything in the room, nor that we were checking out early. An apology and points for our next stay, but WHY WOULD I WANT TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL CHAIN AGAIN WHEN THE DND SIGN WAS BLATANTLY IGNORED? Doesn't the front desk alert staff when a room checks out early? The cleaning staff did not ask my husband when he left the room if he was...
