Ambleside Gallery — Attraction in Greensboro

Today I had the distinct pleasure of experiencing a truly exceptional visit to a local art gallery. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was warmly welcomed by the gallery owner, Jackson. His genuine passion for art was immediately apparent, and his enthusiasm set the tone for the entire experience. Jackson generously guided us through the gallery, sharing fascinating insights into the history and context of each piece. He possessed a remarkable depth of knowledge about the various artists. It was evident that he had a personal connection to each piece, making the entire gallery experience feel intimate and engaging. Beyond the art itself, Jackson also shared stories about his own life and experiences, creating a genuine connection with us- learning that we even were born within a stones throw from each other. We learned about his various travels in India, England, and Michigan and how his passion for art had shaped his life. Overall, my visit to the gallery was an absolute delight. Not only did I have the opportunity to appreciate beautiful works of art, but I also gained a deeper understanding of the stories behind them. My niece attends UNC-G and is taking Intro to Art. For one of her assignments, we went looking for a gallery in downtown and found the Ambleside Gallery. We noticed a piece in the window as we entered, later learning it was created by Brad and Bryan Caviness - whom the owner, Mr. Mayshark, discovered many years ago.

As we walked in, Mr. Mayshark greeted us warmly. He told us about the history of his galleries (in the UK and the US), gave us a tour and allowed my niece to film the Caviness' work for her assignment.

Ambleside Gallery features a wonderfully curated selection of contemporary watercolor, and oil paintings, tiffany designed and handcrafted lampshades, ceramic and carved wood sculpture, mezzotint and copperplate etchings, pastel, colored pencil, and graphite drawings. With subject matter ranging from high studio finish landscapes featuring thunderheads bursting over sunsets, to picturesque groves dappled with afternoon light painted en plein air, this gallery has something to offer everyone.
