Drove past this place for years and finally took the time to try it while in town today. We parked on the side street and it was a nice and easy walk to the restaurant. It was all down hill from there unfortunately though.. A homeless man followed us to the door while asking for cash. He then followed us into the restaurant and stopped to hang out in the foyer, placing the comforter he was carrying in the floor. My group was seated and we watched the unmasked man in the foyer ask everyone coming and going for cash. I asked the waitor if he was aware of what was going on... He said, "yeah, he's homeless." Normally this is a bit unsettling but even more so while we are fighting a pandemic. 20 minutes later a store employee passed him 2 bags of food. He then came into the restaurant talking over customers to the employees in the back of the restaurant. He continued to hang around another 10-15 minutes opening doors and talking to everyone who came thru the foyer before grabbing his belongings and leaving. While watching all of this, the lackluster service was just as disappointing. As a party of 3, we ordered a pizza, a veggie calzone, 2 beers and a water. The menu says a large pizza is 8 slices. Ours came out with 16 tiny, kid sized slices. Not sure why it was double cut. When we asked for another beer we were told they couldn't order it until the first ones were finished. Between beers the pizza came out, so there was nothing to drink with our meal. The calzone was just ok. The veggies inside the calzone were not cooked, just raw mushrooms, peppers and onions. When we asked for the 3rd beers, the 2nd ones were not required to be finished. Just an all around mess. On another note, the place is beautiful. We enjoyed the exposed beams in the ceiling, the elaborate stained glass, the hanging lights, the exposed kitchen and even the restrooms were nice. We may return sometime after covid... But definitely,...
Read moreI was part of a group of 10 people who met at this restaurant for a celebration. The hostess told me that our entire group would need to be present before being seated, but we were allowed to view their menu while we waited. When 8 of our group was present and the other two were trying to find parking the hostess told us they were going to get ready to seat us.
Most of the tables in the restaurant were square and had a chair on each side. The restaurant was able to easily set up for our larger group by pushing tables together. They chose to set us up with 8 people on each side and placed a person on each end, but it was strange that one of the tables they pushed together was a size smaller than the others. There were other unoccupied tables that matched in size available to use so I'm not sure of their purpose in squeezing us in like that. Also, when an 11th person unexpectedly joined our group there wasn't room for them. A couple of people in our group grabbed another table and made room.
Another thing... this restaurant served our drinks with paper straws. I've heard some restaurants are doing that, but this was my first experience with them. Using the paper straw with my water reminded me of what a "spitwad" used to taste like. I'll pass, thank you.
The menu had 4, 6, and 8 slice pizzas that were 12", 14", and 16" respectively. There were speciality pizzas, and build your own. I ordered the equivalent of a 16" Supreme and it was right at $25. Another person ordered the equivalent of a Meatlovers and you wouldn't believe the large amount of bacon on it. In all, our group had 4 large pizzas and not a single slice was left. Salads, subs, and local favorites are also on the menu.
The restaurant was a great venue for our celebration and I would definitely recommend it for whatever reason you would have for...
Read moreStopped in to the Mellow Mushroom on New Years Day 2019 on way home from a trip. Fairly busy when we're arrived, place filled with the young hipster crowd. Was seated promptly. Our server was friendly. I believe her name was Tay. She brought our beverages quickly. Well ordered pretzel nuggets as an appetizer, and a large cheese pizza for our lunch. Well kept it simple as well had to get back to our hometown to pick up our dog. Tay did say that it might take 30-35 minutes for the pizza. I said that was okay. The pretzel nuggets came in about 15 minutes. It was a good size portion and they were nice and hot. There was an interesting beer cheese dipping sauce that came with it.I thought that the beer flavor was a bit too strong, but the cheese was good. Next time I might just go with mustard.I would get them again. That held us quite Well for a time, but when more than 50 minutes passed, I asked Tay to check on the order as I needed to leave soon. She brought the pizza to us at 54 minutes. We had to rush somewhat, and I asked for a box to take the remaining pizza that we didn't have time for. The pizza was tasty. Tay did apologise, and I know she could not control the chefs. I would ask for her again. As we were leaving we noted the people in the booth behind us were just getting their meal and they had been there before us. They waited well over an hour, long enough in fact that I heard the staff apologise to them and that they were getting their meal complimentary due to the wait. I would give them another try, as anyone can have a bad day, but I would advise that if you stop in allow plenty of time to be there. If the timeliness improves I would rate...
