Myself and a few friends have been happy customers of this establishment for several months now. During this time we have had over 20 visits to this specific location despite living in the Belton SC area. Often have made lengthy trips just to shop specifically here. In this time we have spent hundreds of our hard earned dollars here in support of a local business rather than purchasing from online vendors such as Amazon.
Boardwalk has many games to choose from upon their well stocked shelves and often can find deals that can't be found elsewhere. Generally their products are priced competitively such that making the trip to pick up a game same day rather than ordering online for cheaper was often the case for us.
Boardwalk also is one of the few places that hosts tables to play games at free of charge during business hours and even goes above and beyond this and offers store demos of games that you can play before purchasing.
The staff are generally knowledgeable and willing to help and give advice when they can.
Unfortunately my praises for this establishment stop here.. On more than one occasion we have met with disgruntled employees making the experience far less enjoyable. I've placed large orders that I've had to wait weeks to obtain that could have been ordered from an online vendor and received sooner. Even so I choose to support a local business rather than take the fast track not to mention having a PAID Boardwalk membership card that nets an additional discount on anything purchased in store. More than once I've visited the same day of product delivery and employees were unwilling to look in a few boxes to see if my order had arrived, possibly saving me gas and time on a return trip.. even after mentioning the distance travelled to visit, only to be called the very next day that my order was received the night before.
Despite this we choose to not let these few instances completely ruin us coming to Boardwalk until the mishap we had today.
This afternoon we dropped into Boardwalk to check up on an order and decided to pick up a boardgame while we were there. The Boardgame alone was $105 after tax before using the membership card, not to mention the rather large order that I was picking up as well which would have pushed the bill up to almost $200. At this point my friend decided that he was going to pay for the entire purchase with his debit card, making use of my membership for the discount (as we have done for many visits before without issue. Part of why I paid for the membership to begin with so we could both use it). At this point the clerk informed us that my friend could not use my discount but instead had to purchase a membership for himself. At this point my friend turned to me and asked ME to purchase the items including the order I had already placed and was going to pick up, but the clerk said that I could not. The clerk continued to explain that we could not share the membership unless we 1- lived together AND 2- are related. Both of which being completely different than what was originally explained when I purchased the membership. Ontop of all that the clerk explained that she was only treating us this way because the owner was somewhere in the store despite us never seeing him/her.
I've since called Boardwalk and have been unable to speak with the owner nor a manager on the situation.
So due to the clerk being petty over the membership card Boardwalk made absolutely nothing from us in that transaction and has lost all future business from us. Especially considering the boardgame in question (Star Wars: Rebellion) can be purchased from Amazon for $79.99 with free shipping. Saving over $20, gas and time.
In the end aside from everything else, Boardwalk's policy on the use of the membership card is terrible. Wether I'm buying an item for myself or someone else should not have an impact on the discount.
TL DR: Had a very infuriating visit concerning the use of my paid Boardwalk discount card that resulted in not receiving the discount. Will be taking my business elsewhere...
Read morehello, I usually don't post messages to store, but in this instance I wanted to let somebody know. I was looking to trade/sell some of my older Magic Cards and Pokémon Cards that I had. I walked in the store today and went directly to your trade counter. I went to speak with one of the gentlemen there. he was kind of red haired with a beard. he was absolutely rude to me. I asked if I could sell my cards and before I even finished my sentence, he snapped at me. he very RUDELY said that you weren't doing cash and you didn't take pokemon cards. Instead of trading them in, I walked out. that little interaction ruined any aspect of my EVER coming back there. I drove an hour to come to your store and it was worth it until he acted like that. so with that being said. I want to shoot you this message letting you know that he may need more training on dealing with people. thank you for taking time out of your busy day...
Read moreAll in all: The place is well-stocked with a variety of goods, it's super clean, and the staff are great.
Boardwalk has a huge selection of games, ttrpg books, and gaming accessories, meaning there's something here for everyone. (If my non-gaming mom walked away today with a new card game in her hands, I'm pretty sure anyone can find something they'll like too lol).
The two employees I talked with were not only friendly but also super personable, and they clearly love the gaming community. They were able to order a book I've been hunting down for a WHILE and then offer some great suggestions on top of that.
I saw spaces in the back for private/public gaming sessions that looked pretty nice, although I can't personally vouch for those yet.
I was happily surprised by Boardwalk's quality. It's great when you can really vibe with others who share your interests. Looking forward to returning...
