I used this facility for boarding over Christmas of 2024 because the facility I would usually use was fully booked. I had little to no issues with them at that time (aside from noticing a definite lack of customer service training among the front desk staff). Because of the relatively good experience, I decided to use them again for boarding starting today through the weekend.
My dog has epilepsy, he has had epilepsy since he was a puppy. This was disclosed to the facility staff on his last stay with them, because he has to be given medication on a schedule. I always make sure to put in the notes when booking if it’s online- anytime he boards anywhere- that he has epilepsy. That is what I did this time as well- since it’s been over 6 months from the last visit. In fact, my note in his reservation (which I made a week or more ago) explicitly said to let me know if there is going to be an issue so I can make alternate arrangements. I heard nothing.
Today, at drop off, I was asked when he had last had a seizure- to which I answered honestly that it was a few days ago. I got some odd reactions and “ooos” from the two staff members helping me, and instead of acknowledging and addressing my confusion, they looked behind me and waved someone else over. Whoever I was then dealing with told me the facility had changed their policy earlier this year to require boarding dogs to have had their last seizure over a year prior to boarding.
People who are remotely familiar with common chronic conditions in dogs, such as epilepsy, realize that it’s asinine to suggest it is a “normal” expectation for a dog who experiences seizures to have just ONE per year. She told me if he had a seizure while in their care they would have him transported to an emergency vet, which I informed her would be completely unnecessary. He has never needed to go to the emergency vet because of a seizure. She said it is required- which, given that they claim to have a vet practice on-site attached to the boarding facility/daycare, is absolutely ludicrous. Not because they could necessarily provide emergency services on-site, but because they have access to some kind of vet with veterinary knowledge, and yet they STILL know NOTHING about chronic conditions. Clearly. Because their policies reflect as much. So this to me demonstrates their staff are completely untrained and unequipped to deal with any sort of problem that could arise with boarding animals- aside from resorting to the extreme scenario of forcing their customers to incur emergency vet costs.
She fumbled around on her computer while I questioned this ridiculous policy. She did not apologize for their lack of communication ahead of time which now put me in the terrible position of needing to find somewhere else to board my dog or else needing to cancel my plans, and offered little to no assistance or apology other than “we won’t be able to board him”.
I realize this experience is not as bad as some other accounts I’ve read- but I wanted to share mine because I know there are many people in the Greenville area who also have epileptic dogs, many of whom I am in contact with personally. I will be letting them know to not bring their dogs to this business or to recommend it to the people in their circles. Nobody needs to support a business with such...
Read moreOur dog Winston has been going here for boarding for a couple years, but as of recently they have really been disappointing- to the point where we will not longer be using them for any services or use them as our vet, as we no longer feel safe with him in their care.
We booked with them for July 4th weekend for boarding and in addition, we had previously arranged for grooming services prior to picking him up. We arrived in the afternoon for pick up, and they had forgotten to do his grooming services. This is a busy weekend, and we chalked it up to that, although we were pretty annoyed. They didn’t charge us for the services and apologized but that was the first red flag they do not have adequate staffing to safely handle the services they’re offering and the volume of animals in their care.
This past weekend we hesitantly rebooked as we had a wedding out of town. We also booked grooming services in advance as well. We saw Winston on the camera only once the whole weekend, playing and looking seemingly happy. The first problem started when we were driving home and hit traffic around the Charlotte area. It put us about 10 minutes past the 5pm closing time for Sunday afternoon. We saw the change on the GPS around 3pm and called right away to see if they could wait for us. I called three times and was sent to voicemail every time. The only response we were able to get was from the corporate call center that told us our only option was to extend another night, since no one could get the store on the phone to ask and see if they could hold the door for a few extra minutes. Although we were annoyed and ready to pick him up, we understood we were late, so hesitantly, we booked the additional night through the call center. Still, never hearing back from the Greenville store….
I arrived first thing the next morning to pick him up, at 8am. There was a line out the door and took me 45 minutes to get to the counter to check him out. When I got Winston, they again, had forgotten about the booked grooming services. Winston also was acting abnormally anxious and dragging me outside to our car- which he has never done. I get him loaded up and pulled out to notice he was covered in dog feces, and smelled absolutely terrible. We have always used their house food, with no problems- and they have never told us he has been picky, but since being home he has had severe GI upset, waking us up every two hours to take him outside, for the last 24 hours and contributing. Assumingely from their house food, or something he ingested while in their care. He is still lethargic and sick, and has been acting extra anxious since he’s been home.
Of course, we still have no been able to get ahold of anyone in the store. Even after calling, and leaving reviews on their app.
They clearly cannot safely handle the volume of animals in their care, and their attention to your animal has gone way down hill. It used to be such a great facility, but we will never be back. It is a terrible feeling to not get ahold of the people that are caring for your pet, and then to find him the next day in the state he was in-...
Read moreMy experience with Pet Paradise sums up in two words, "Buyer Beware."I have a little Haveapoo who was set for boarding and training in the month of December 2024. There were numerous issues that needed to be dealt with. During his stay, the trainer did the best she could with our pup, but knowing that he was left for the 21 day and still needed extensive training told me a lot. The day I did picked him up. He was all madded and was due for a grooming. Unfortunately, the groomer was ill that day, so I brought him back the following day. The grooming did not go well. They cut as much of the matting out that they could. I had to go to another facility and have him shaved down. Communication was not there. The trainer was always busy, pulled away to other jobs. The facility was short handed and very unorganized. As to getting communication through front desk don't even go there. No one knew if trainer was there or not. I did try communication as well through text, but a couple days would go by with no answer. Unfortunately, I did raise my concerns with the office and asked to speak to a manager after not being able to continue training with trainer because of holidays and and other jobs she needed to cover. Our little guy was not socialized, as well. He was not neutered at the time, but I was told that he would be chaperoned and he would be socialized and have playtime. Always watching the camera, never seening him out playing in any one of the yards and seeing him in the kennel constantly. I then had to go to another facility after getting him home to be socialized with other dogs. It boils down to this if you're going to leave your pet to be trained. The trainer should be consistent. Everything should be very well communicated, what should be expected? How much time the trainer really will spend with your pet. After paying $2995.00, I do believe that this outcome was not acceptable. I did speak with the Director of Canine Behavior, James Powers and he did try to work things out with the trainer and myself. But he was unable to offer a different trainer. As well as no refund! Please be aware of leaving your pet at Pet Paradise for training. It is not worth the money. Aside from boarding and training and paying for the other facilities. I had no confidence in leaving our pet to follow-up any more. This is the month of April I started this last year in December. I feel that corporate bean counters have bitten Paradise. Unfortunately, now it's a thriving business about the bottom dollar. Our pet has been trained and well taken care of in a different facility, not paying a fraction of what was paid at Pet Paradise for nonsense. Please, if you love your pet and your sanity take note! There's a lot to be desired and a lot to be examined as to what's being offered and what really gets done for the board & training programs. Please, truly, it is a "Buyer...
