City of Gulfport: Gulfport Casino Ballroom — Attraction in Gulfport

We went for the Sunday evening ballroom dance, expecting a Vegas style casino building with a floor crowded with tux and gown clad socialites, martinis in one hand, partners in the other, flowing to a big band orchestra, raising their noses in disdain at our coatless tieless gownless normal-people attire. What we found was a pleasant unassuming community center building with signs on the front entrances directing us to the side entrance, entering which we paid $8 each to join about 15 people on a very large and well maintained dance floor. A bar at the side had affordable drinks, and there were plenty of tables and chairs. The dj music was very good, easy to dance to, standard ballroom assortment of foxtrot, waltz, chacha, rumba, swing, tango, quickstep etc. We had a great couple of hours there dancing and watching some highly skilled (and some intermediately skilled) dancers show their chops. This is a very cute little town. Not only do you have an area where you can go to the beach with plenty of parking and amazing views, you also have plenty of places to eat, plenty of little shops to visit, and an altogether fun time for family, friends and couples. This is a community that is alternative, so if your sensitivity levels to that type of crowd are higher than lower, it may not be a venue for you. Nonetheless, great place to visit, cute little town, but bring your wallet with you because the prices in these restaurants are not inexpensive. Music with the Impacts is always nice. It's nice to hear the old familiar "oldies". The Impacts singing group is great! Dancing to those with slow dances is romantic. My husband and I don't get out much. But it's romantic walking on the deck right along the Gulf. Night lights while you are dancing let you see the Gulf thru large windows! Very inexpensive if you buy your tickets ahead They are 12.00 a piece. Just call the office and ask the next time they are playing and buy your tickets ahead. Much more money--like 25.00 a piece at at the door. You can get group tables if you call ahead too. Costs you nothing extra. Full bar. It's so fun and...
