Normally, we like staying at this hotel. I think I have changed my mind about this! We had an unbelievably bad experience this past stay which warrants this review. We had a three night reservation for this hotel (11/5 - 11/8). Our first night at the hotel was nice (as expected), except for the fact that we reserved a king room and were told this room type was no longer available so we were put into a double queen room. Okay -- no problem. The bed was comfortable, the AC worked well, and we had fun in the casino. In the middle of our second day at the hotel, the power went out for the entire Beach tower. Note that the power in our room went out, however, the halls were still well-lit and the elevators still worked. We were told that they were moving us to an off-property hotel for the evening and that they were not sure what was going to happen regarding our third night. Okay again -- we moved into this off-property hotel which was nice and welcoming, and very comfortable. The next morning I called the front desk to get an update on the plan for our third night and I was told that the call center would call us with a plan later that morning (note that we had to check out of this off-property hotel by 11AM). After not hearing from anyone, I called back a couple of hours later and was told to check-out of the off-property hotel as they were only committing to cover that one night, and that they weren't sure if we had a room back at Island View for the third night. Now, not Okay! They called me after we had checked out of the hotel to tell me that they were not going to cover us for a third night at any other property, that we were on our own to find a place to stay and to pay for it out of our pocket, and that they had checked us out of the Island View! WHAT?!? What type of customer service is this?!? We were lucky to find another reasonably priced hotel to stay at for our third night and will never give our money or our time to the Island View Hotel ever AGAIN! I get it that problems happen like this, however, if they were concerned about losing customers, they would have treated us differently than they did! I'd give them zero stars if it...
Read moreFirst, I would like to say that this USED to be my favorite casino, but now I absolutely will not be returning here. |I began coming here about two years ago and it was worth the SIX HOUR drive every single time I came. Every trip was memorable. Even if I didn’t win a lot, the casino would at least let you play the slots and have a good time. Now they just eat your money and leave you feeling like you wasted your time. |The casino used to be clean. Now the machines are dirty, sticky and full of trash. The staffing has been cut it seems, so they can’t keep it clean and don’t bother even waiting for a waitress. You’re better off just grabbing a coke from a machine that doesn’t have ice in it. |People sit and slap and hit the machines and the staff just walk right by and don’t say a word, so therefore you are stuck with SEVERAL machines that the buttons don’t work. |I was given a decent room, but the shower would not get hot at all and the bath water was YELLOW!!!!! I didn’t even feel like I was clean! |I came in a Thursday night and found that I had ZERO COMPS! They used to give a ton of food comps! On the third day of my trip I finally was given comps to five of the restaurants. After I had already paid for a breakfast at the buffet that was just gross. I also had to pay for my other meals until day three. Once I used ONE of my meal comps that equaled a whopping $17.90, ALL of my other meal comps were taken away!!!! So I am currently sitting at C&G Grille eating a meal that my friend comped for me! |I am a single mother and work very hard for my money. I understand that I am at a casino, but the least they could do is turn the machines on and let you play for a bit. This is my relaxing time, but it has been nothing but STRESSFUL the whole trip!!!!! It’s sad when you look around and NO ONE looks like they are having a good time. Everyone I spoke with said that this casino has turned to dirt. |Do better Island View, but as for me and my friend, we ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT be making a SIX HOUR TRIP to this...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting the Gulf Coast for many years. Island View has always been our go-to casino. It’s non-smoking, has several restaurant venues, and a choice of two hotels where we’ve stayed several times. None of that has changed, but unfortunately the general attitude of its customer-facing employees has. From the guards at the entry points who glare at you when you enter without saying a word, to many of the customer service reps at the players club who make no effort to hide the fact that they could care less about much of anything - but especially their jobs.||Island View has cut back considerably on their comps. But this is nothing new as most casinos have done the same thing. That is not our issue.||At a recent visit, the announcement said if you earn 100 points then you get a ½ price buffet coupon. We played for a couple of hours and saw no coupon offers on the kiosk. My card showed 172 points. The players club person checked my card and said to go check the kiosk again because I had enough points, and it should be there. Again, no coupon. A slot attendant helped us check the kiosk and he couldn’t find it, either. We returned to the players club desk and got a different answer in the form of “you have no coupon”, but no explanation why they originally said we should have a coupon. I asked how many points they showed on my card, and they again just repeated that I have no coupons. Another rep finally offered a snide comment that, “you play $1, you get one point”. All of this without looking up from her cell phone - and with no apologies whatsoever. ||We left and have decided that we will only be back on Fridays for our free play. Otherwise, we will go to the non-smoking Palace Casino where people are friendly, slots often pay off, and we get a free buffet four days a week. This will be our new go-to place until Island View conducts some retraining with their customer service staff. It's definitely a sad situation when they have such a beautiful facility, but the experience is ruined by...
