I'm utilizing the free summer pass here and the gym is a very clean and friendly environment. Kel is super nice and always sparks a conversation with me and my friends, getting to know us. However, the handling of the summer pass and the way I am treated with it could be heavily improved under management. After signing up online, I go to this planet Fitness for the first time about a month and a half ago. When I get there, I find out I need to complete 2 sessions of "new member orientation" before being able to use the gym. I was not upset about the fact that there is an orientation, but for the fact that no where on the contract, app or when you sign up for the free pass does it say I am required to complete this or their schedule for it anywhere. The manager handled it very poorly as she kicks me out after driving 20 minutes there. I understand she is just doing her job but she could have been nicer about it as Barbara never said an apology, or showed empathy at all. I continue to complete "New Member orientation" and it makes me even more infuriated. I am not new to the gym, so I know pretty much what I'm doing. The trainer just stood and watched me for 5 minutes and left me alone for the rest of the hour. What was the point of the orientation and why is it mandatory for me to complete it TWICE? It was just a waste of my time. I can understand it for young high schoolers that are new to the gym, as Marcus/Avery was very nice and offered to help/give advice, but I did not need to go through that. After all of this, whenever I scan in the employees always ask if I did the training (even a month later), and every time I explain that I have and give the names of the trainers I did it with. The day of my second orientation, Marcus marks me down that I have completed it. When Barbara was at the desk, I get asked if I did it and she supposedly marked me down for both (again), and then the next day I'm only marked down for one? Make it make sense. Why do I still come in? Don't get me wrong this is still a very good gym, and I am getting to use it for free. The equipment is clean and up to date, Kel is a new friend, and I am a broke college student. The only downside to this gym is Barbara. I CALLED CALIFORNIA WHERE I DROVE FROM. THEY SAID PLANET FITNESS IN NORTH BERGEN IS LYING ABOUT TYPING THAT COMPLAINT. I NOTIFIED THEM IN CALIFORNIA. It already sucks that you canāt speak to headquarters about billing issues, you have to speak to your home club which is fine if the manager actually helped but they do not. I havenāt been to planet fitness in months but i still kept my membership and paid for it every month. I didnāt foresee this being an issue. I then resumed going back to PF just recently and I couldnāt be let in the club, they told me that there were late fees that need to be paid for before continuing. I told them i had no idea about any late fees, i never got any email, or notification from the app notifying me of any late fees that needs to be paid. The only way you know this is if you go into the app itself. I wasnāt going there for months, so i never used the app. I was really upset because i didnāt know PF did late fees and if i knew, i would have just cancelled my membership instead of paying it every month. Today i called my home club about this issue and told them this is a problem since I didnāt have a clue about late fees, i never received a notification nor email stating that this is on my account. The manager here told me he canāt do anything about it or even cancel my membership. And that they are still gonna charge me every month for my membership- because I canāt cancel it. This is is absurd and so backwards because the website specifically says if youāre looking for any billing inquiries and looking for a refund, contact the home club and management there.
