This motel REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME SERVICE AND A ROOM AND DISCRIMINATES AGAINST PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND SERVICE DOGS UNDER ADA LAW. Here’s my story. On Friday, August 30th 2024 around 4pm, I was in vacation in Hampton Beach NH (I’m Canadian) and looking for a room so I could stay one more night. So my friend (who is an US citizen and NH resident) was searching a room for me. He finally talk with the manager name Joe at the Main Sail Motel (40 Ashworth Ave. Hampton NH 03842) in Hampton beach, who told him he had a cancellation/no show from a booking made on expedia which had made no deposit, so that yes, he had a room available for me on this night but I needed to go there and pay him cash for the room, for the price we agreed on. Everything was set up and confirm by phone, I went back there with my friend that arranges the meeting for me to pay cash for the room. I walked in the office with my service dog. I have a cardiac myopathy disease and an internal defibrillator. I need my service dog to help me in my day to day life especially to pull me uphill or upstairs because I don’t have the physical/cardiac capability to “force” in an anaerobic effort. I also take a lot of medication for this cardiomyopathy I need her to keep me upwards when I sometimes loose my balance/dizziness so I can hold on to her and her harness not to fall. And she can also detect my arythmia so she's also a medical service dog. Anyway, Joe was there, and when he saw me entering with my service dog he said he didn’t accept dog, I explain to him that it was a service dog, anyway she had all her equipment on her (harness and card) identifying her as a service dog, he said he didn’t care he couldn’t accept me with a dog, I explain to him my cardiac problem and what she did for me, even told him she had her card and I could proved that she was a real service dog, he said he didn’t care, they don’t accept dogs, I than explain to him that, by Law, he could not refused, he had the obligation to accept me and my identify and registered service dog, he was maintaining that “No” there was nothing to do, and has I was insisting that he could not just say no and legally he could not deny me the room because I had a Service dog, he then change his story and literally said : “Anyway, I don’t have any room available for you, we are full booked”, so with that, suddenly he changed his version and said he had no room available now! On that note, I couldn’t do anything more since he basically “covered” himself by saying no room available and I didn’t have a written room booked with them cause the booking deal was made last minute by my friend by phone. So I had to leave and come back to canada cause I had no room to sleep in at that point. Even though I’m a Canadian, i think it's important for me to write and tell what happen to me with this Mainsail motel so that my rights and mostly the futur rights to you, American with disabilities, was infringed and that this places discriminates against people with disabilities and service dogs. I’m mostly thinking about veterans too that have ptsd dogs and that I respect very much even though USA is not my country (I was part of the thin blue line before I was hurt on the job and my heart as now severe damaged so i’m medically retired now), so I do recognized the services provided by all those people that fights for their country and their rights and I don’t want them to have to fight more with those kind of discriminatory places just because they now have the need for a service dog. So I think, doing a review and complaint, even though I’m Canadian, can help them (veterans) and all the other deserving Americans out there to get their rights respected. So pass the word about this place Windsail Motel in Hampton Beach NH = discrimination and no respected of ADA laws and civil rights of American and Canadian tourists. Thanks.

I have never experienced such poor service at such a dirty and disgusting place in my life. The hotel called me an hour and a half before my arrival, asking what my ETA was, because they wanted to rent my parking space on a busy day. We were stuck in traffic, and our arrival was a little past 1:00. As check in time was 2:00, I thought we could just park and be on our way to the beach. No. We had to pay $20 cash to park less than an hour before check-in time. They claim they could have rented that space if we did not get there early. I did not complain. When we got there, as a family of four, there were only 2 towels and a washcloth in the room. I asked for more towels and the manager, Joe, did not believe me. He asked if I looked around, and I said I was certain there were only 2 towels. He did reluctantly give me more, 2 more, plus I had to beg for a bathmat and hand towels. Since they didn’t even give us enough toilet paper for our two night stay, my husband went to the office to get more (they do not offer maid service unless you ask). I said can you just grab another towel while you’re there. Apparently they don’t give you another towel (even when you’re staying there for extra nights.) i went and talked to the manager. I was told one per person per stay. Or he told me if had asked nicely and returned with my dirty towels, I could have exchanged them. At this point, he had attitude. I said, you had the nerve to charge me $20 extra to park less than an hour early, and I can’t even get another towel? And he said he was “pissed” because I got there early. I’m sure he was really “pissed” about the $20 I gave him. We stayed in one of the “redone” rooms and it was disgusting. I am posting pictures. I’m also pretty sure they pay off review sites because there are no recent reviews if you look carefully. I’m not even sure this will be published. I’m posting pictures of our disgusting room.

BEWARE... DON'T STAY IN COTTAGE C6....First: I am not the type of person to tear someone's business apart as I feel it's someone's livelyhood. Hampton Beach has been our family vacation spot for over 40 years. We usually stay for 1 week in the summer and this year decided to stay at The Main Sail, in a cottage, since they had good reviews and a pool. However there were numerous issues from day 1 in our cottage at Main Sail. As soon as we opened the door there was a horrific smell coming from the kitchen. We didn't know where is was coming from till that night when we were cooking dinner. We opened the sink and discovered the drain pipe was not connected right and it was pouring out water every time we turned the sink on. It was something that had been on going for some time, cause the wood was rotted with mold. Next was the mold in the in the shower and on the shower curtain as well as the ants in the bathroom. The floors were filthy dirty if you wipe them with a white paper towel, it turned brown. The back door also had a 2 inch gap that was filled in with plastic bags. Now, you'll ask yourself why did we stay? We were going to leave, after expressing my frustrations with Joe the manager, but he was kind enough to have a plummer come in and fix the sink the next day, he had cleaners come in a clean the bathroom and maitnance to fix the door. We tried to stick it out for the remainder of the week, but other issues kept happening. There was ants that infested our cookies that were on the counter. We had a bees nest outside our bedroom window, but because there were gaps in the windows, because there was no screens, bees kept entering. Several windows were broken, either the screens were ripped or the window would not stay open, slamming shut. To be fair, I tried reaching out to the owner twice, with ZERO reponse. So maybe he'll listen to a review.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the Main Sail Motel in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, every year for my entire life, and it's been an incredible experience! This oceanfront gem has become a beloved tradition that I look forward to annually. The hotel's highlights include stunning ocean views, comfortable and modern rooms, and a prime location just steps from Hampton Beach's vibrant boardwalk. However, what truly sets the Main Sail Hotel apart is its exceptional staff. They're always welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable, making every stay feel like home. If you're planning a visit, I recommend booking an oceanfront room for the ultimate experience, planning ahead for parking, and taking advantage of the hotel's beach chairs and towels. Overall, I give the Main Sail Motel a well-deserved 5/5 rating. Its consistency, charm, and exceptional staff keep me coming back year after year. Will I be back? Absolutely!

Rooms were very clean. Parking on site. Short walk to shops and food. Laundry mat across the street for convenience. Stayed 2 nights in a room, family rented cabins. Room was spotless. Looks like the whole site was recently renovated. Hard floors, sliding doors, ac, tv, microwave and small fridge. No smoking in rooms. Pool was smaller and closed at 8, but the beach is a short walk (recommend buggy if you have a lot of beach gear). Family friendly. Cabin had full kitchen and separate bedrooms along with covered porch and access to grill. Can’t say enough good things about staff. Probably the most attentive staff I’ve ever experienced.

We had a great stay at the Main Sail! The location is perfect—just a short walk to the beach, boardwalk, shops and restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating, check-in and check-out was a breeze. The only minor downside was that the parking area was a bit tight, but overall, we were very pleased with our experience. We would definitely recommend the Main Sail to anyone looking for a convenient and cozy place to stay at Hampton Beach!" Look forward to trying their cottages in the future.
