I'd like to think that we are a family that is seasoned in Children's museums. This is definitely one of the better ones that we've been to. We were looking for something to do on our checkout day from Massanutten resort and we saw this on the way up north 81 so we decided to let the kids expel some energy before a 4-Hour car ride. It was a little bit difficult to find. The GPS brought us to the front entrance but the parking is actually behind so we had to go around the block. The attendant at the front was very nice. The price is great for a children's museum. Some other places we've been to are just so expensive compared to this. Right off the bat, they have some unique things when it comes to Children's museums. We love the science center right when you come in with lots of different activities for preschool or elementary level kids. Our son attends a Montessori School up north so a lot of the stuff in that science center was right up his alley. The news broadcasting center was down while we were there for refurbishment. There's still plenty to do with that not being accessible to us. My daughter (9) loved the theater area and we had the counting popcorn toys in our Amazon cart by the time we left. I do think that they could upgrade some of the costumes. Since she was a little bit older there weren't a lot of options for her. She eventually settled on some butterfly wings but I could see her longing as a little girl ran around in a full princess dress. My son absolutely loved the aviation area on the second floor, Thomas the train set, ambulance, and car repair shop. All of them were great for a child obsessed...
Read moreMy daughter and I visited the Science Museum several years ago when She was 7 years old and it was truly an educational, fun, and memorable experience – a triple threat of delight, if you will. From the moment we walked in, the museum sparkled with an infectious energy. It's the kind of place where learning feels less like "learning" and more like "playing really, really smartly." My daughter, who usually reserves her most enthusiastic "wows" for ice cream and puppies, was captivated by everything. We explored interactive exhibits that seemed to magically demystify complex scientific principles. I even found myself, a grown adult, having an "aha!" moment or two, discreetly checking to make sure my daughter wasn't looking as I rediscovered the joy of simple machines. The staff were incredibly engaging, striking that perfect balance of professional and genuinely excited about science. They answered every "why?" (and there were many) with patience and a twinkle in their eye, making even the most intricate concepts digestible for a curious 7-year-old. It's safe to say they've mastered the art of making brains grow without anyone even realizing they're exercising. We laughed, we learned, and we made some wonderful memories. If you're looking for an outing that will spark curiosity and provide genuine fun for all ages, the Science Museum in Harrisonburg is an absolute must-visit. Just be prepared for your little one to suddenly start explaining the laws of physics over dinner – it's a small price to pay for such a...
Read moreOur grandkids ages 4 and 8 loved it! If you take the time to do the activities, you could spend hours here. However, the fee is minimal so if you only have an hour, you'll get your money's worth. As a teacher, I especially appreciated the hands on activities. For example, my 8 year old grandson and I built an electrical circuit and were able to see that it had to be "closed" to work the doorbell. The 4 year old loved feeling the fur of many animals as she looked at a picture of it. Both enjoyed the art and building blocks centers. There were sections to pretend like being a dentist with life size chair, a real ambulance with equipment, and a real airplane fuselage with pilot seat. A favorite of many kids I saw there was tubing with an air current that carried scarves in many directions. The path could be changed by...
