Escapism Escape Rooms — Local services in Harrisonburg

This is going to be a very detailed review so forgive me. My husband and I just completed 3 nights of terror at escapism. We first want to point out the Tyler was an amazing game master! So this has nothing to do with him and EVERYTHING to do with how the room was designed and the way which we were spoke to when voicing our concerns. This room was not terrible by any means. With very simple changes it could be great. The biggest problem with this room is that it is made hard just for the sake of being hard. Randomly having to put different numbers into locks without any rhyme or reason to it. My husband and I have completed 140 escape rooms and we don’t ask for much. The puzzles need to flow and make sense, and the room needs to be immersive and aesthetically pleasing. The problem with 3 nights of terror is the former. There were so many puzzles that had no rhyme or reason and you just had to randomly try things out. What makes an escape room great are the subtle jabs throughout the room that LEAD you to the right answer. But so many times in the room, we were forced to just try out different numbers in locks for no reason. The female owner (sorry her name escapes me) actually told us that this is to make it harder. But if a puzzle has to rely on RANDOMNESS to be hard, then there’s no point in making it hard. You could just add more things to a room if you want it to take more time. Either that or make slightly easier but more thought out and better puzzles but just make it a 60 minute room. At the point where you have to add in randomness to make a puzzle hard, you’ve just gone past the point of being hard to being BAD.

What really brought this bad experience over the edge for us was how to female owner treated us when we brought our thoughts to her. We get it, people are going to have different opinions. We also get that as the owner of a creative outlet, she is going to be naturally defensive when it comes to her games. Also, because we’re experienced doesn’t mean our opinion is best. But when we express why we think certain puzzles didn’t work and her answer is just ‘well that’s what makes it hard’, you have just said exactly what the problem is. You don’t want excellent puzzles that flow well. You just want them to be hard. She seemed kind of condescending in her responses and overall just gave the vibe of being a little fake to us and not caring about our opinion. (Which AGAIN is fine! She might not care about our opinion, but that’s not how you do customer service lol). We’ve sat down with owners several times over the years doing this and never once have we felt like 1.) the owners had zero justifications for their choices and 2.) like they just didn’t care.

At the end of the day, we have had not-so-great experiences in the past and haven’t felt the need to write reviews, but in those circumstances we were met with concern and understanding and not dismissiveness.

Maybe other people have had different experiences with this location and with this room, but we felt it important to express our opinion, especially for any other enthusiasts out there who may feel the same way we do about design and...

Our visit to Escapism Escape Room in Harrisonburg was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we walked through the door, we felt welcomed and at ease. The environment is incredibly family-friendly, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone in our group—kids and adults alike—felt comfortable and included.

We chose the Blind Tiger escape room, and it was an absolute blast! The room is themed around the Prohibition era, and the attention to detail was outstanding. From the décor to the puzzles, every element was thoughtfully crafted to immerse us in the 1920s. It genuinely felt like we had stepped into a speakeasy from the past. The storyline was clever, the puzzles were challenging but fair, and the entire experience was incredibly engaging from start to finish.

My family and i went into this escape room excited about the 1.5 hour room, three nights of terror. Most of the time when escape rooms do 1.5 hour rooms, its like a money grab situation.

Three Nights of Terror is in my top ten favorite escape rooms of all time.

I have done 89 and after today ill have completed 90 rooms total. I've seen many times of storytelling and puzzles. But this escape room truly stumped us in areas but not long enough to take away from the fun that this room was. The set of the room was fantastic, each night of terror was perfectly up and immersive. The first room was my favorite, the clowns are friendly i promise haha.

If you are a seasoned escape room artist or if you are new and wanting a challenge, this room is for you. My family and i broke the record for this room as well, so check us out at the top of the leaderboard and see if you can finish quicker than us haha!
