Visited 6/25/2021: We stopped into Heritage Bakery & Cafe hoping to grab some pastries to take back to our hotel, but they only had scones which was a disappointment to us given the photos we've seen online of their bakes. But it wasn't a huge deal, so we ordered food to enjoy in the cafe. I had a bowl of granola, yogurt, and fruit. It was a generously-sized portion and their homemade granola was delicious; they served the bowl drizzled with honey and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Except for bananas, I was disappointed that my bowl didn't have bananas on it, but there was plenty of berries on top to keep me satisfied. My husband ordered the Belgian waffle and from the one bite of it I had, it was incredible. Super fluffy with a nice crispy exterior, it was everything you could wish from a Belgian waffle. It was served with syrup on the side and was mounded with fresh fruit.
The set-up inside is really cute, and behind the counter, the open kitchen looks like a little old lady's kitchen. The young people working there were helpful and friendly, but we felt awkward in there. They were all talking and laughing and it felt like we had walked in on a private conversation. I don't know, we just didn't feel super welcomed.
Our iced coffees were good, and they had soy milk available for us, but I wish they had more of an interesting coffee bar selection. Not a deal-breaker though because they don't obviously advertise themselves as a coffee shop. Also, I think their signage could be a bit better and more clear. Their menu board is on the right side of the counter and it's hard to crane your neck to see everything they have available quickly with other people behind you waiting to order. We also weren't sure if we were supposed to leave our dirty plates on the table or bring them back up to the counter since it wasn't really a sit-down table service situation.
None of these should be a deal-breaker though, and I would certainly visit them again next time I'm in...
Read moreI absolutely love cake & dessert and I knew for our wedding that I wanted a variety of different cake flavors & options, because how on earth could we ever pick just one or two?! :) Instead of a tiered cake or a small cutting cake for the bride/groom with a sheet cake for guests, I envisioned a "Cake Bar" table with a variety of cakes in different sizes and flavors. Isabelle at Heritage Bakery & Cafe was completely on board with this idea from the beginning and made my entire Cake Bar dream come true! We had 6 round cakes (some two tier, some one tier) and 12 gluten-free cupcakes. For 120 guests it was perfect and we had some leftovers too! The cakes were so popular with guests that my husband, me, and our parents were bummed we didn't get to try every flavor- lol! Everything we did try though (both at our tasting and at the reception) was delicious. Everything was also incredibly affordable!! I am pretty particular with cake and I am SO pleased with how Heritage's cakes taste 100% homemade and are always moist and flavorful. Plus, our cakes were decorated beautifully with the cake toppers/cake stands I provided and the flowers our florist had provided. I cannot thank Heritage enough for their creativity, enthusiasm, and talent! My husband and I live 2 hours away, but we will definitely be stopping by for treats from Heritage every time we are in the...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews unless a place I’ve visited was exceptional in more ways than one and has really left a mark. And wow, Heritage Bakery & Cafe is easily one of those places! I’ve been in four times since discovering this place and the ladies behind the counters haven’t yet missed a beat in delivering bright and cheerful smiles along with friendly service. The food have been fresh.
Their Belgian Waffle was the best I’ve ever had, light and airy, topped with fresh berries. Their greens were crunchy and crisply sweet. Their cheesecakes were just the right amount of sweet. But the one thing that really first made its mark on my initial visit was that they use unbleached paper tea bags (in which it seemed they use a custom, hand blend of teas), I hope you guys never stop doing that!
As for the atmosphere, they bring back the traditional, New Englander tea and china wares, along with their heritage style dining chairs and tables to top it off with! How cute and quaint is that. This cafe is a must visit for anyone who values top-notch service and fresh foods and...
