We are staying in the Princeville area and searched for a farmers market and a Luau show. To our surprise Anaina Hou Community Park had both. The reviews of the Luau were very good, especially the fireshow. We bought VIP tickets to sit on the front row and we were very satisfied! The music, story telling and dancing were exceptional! The meal was very good, plenty of variety, flavor and portion. There have been negative comments about the portions, but all 6 adults in our party were satisfied. This is not an "AYCE self serve buffet" as others may be; it is served and there is plenty wthout the waste. This is an exceptional show without the drive down to Lihue, if you're on the Northside give it a try. On our way tot the Farmers Market on Saturday, we stopped at the farmers market in Princeville on the way out. We didn't realize they also had one. It was very nice, lots of vendors, but this market is for the tourists. The Anaina Hou FM had much of the same, but at lower prices. For example, I paid $20 for the bouquet of local flowers, and the "same" bouquet was $10 at Anaina Hou. I suggest going to Anaina Hou first, then hit Princeville on the way back to see if you missed anything. We also saw that they have Mini Golf at Anaina Hou and were planning to go, but at $20 each that seems a bit overpriced. They do have a very nice playground for young kids so you should check that out if it fits your family. Overall, this is a gem of a...
Read moreMy husband and I really enjoyed the Ahi Lele Fire Show. It’s a unique mix of good food, a Hula performance, and a fire show. The venue is in a beautiful forest reserve, which adds to the atmosphere.
The food was tasty, and the shows were thoughtfully put together. The performers were engaging and even invited some audience members to join them on stage to learn Hula dance. As for the fire show, the storytelling added a nice cultural touch to the experience, and the progression of the performances—from poi dance to the Samoan slap dance (also called mosquito dance) and finally the fire knife dance—was well done. I especially loved how they incorporated humor and great acting into the skit—it wasn’t just another fire show.
This was one of our favorite activities on the island, and we’d love to go again on...
Read moreGlad we stopped for hike and Farmer/s Market on a Saturday (9-1 PM). Market included mostly local produce and had live music; it wasn't hugh but had all the produce we wanted (not much ready to eat hot food or meat & cheese options if that's what you want). Hike was very easy through Eucalyptus and Mahogany tree groves (formerly sugar cane and guava grove). Trail is well marked, not very muddy by Kauai standards and has an amazing Zen Garden at the stone dam. Stay out of the water due to flood/septic micro contaminants and Lepro. Trail was mostly shaded so a nice any-time-of- day 5 mile (round trip) walk, which takes one past horses, aqua-hydroponic green houses for the present day farm. Historic plaques along the trail keep the walk interesting too. Allow at least 2 hours for hike, longer for...
